WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH #287
WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER WITH THESE
OBSERVATIONS?
Because the Catholic Church is a Big
part of my life and my being...almost as important as my Faith.
And now the Church Fathers, the
Bishops, the Curia - the entire Magisterium - is causing the organized Church
to risk another schism by its intransigence.
The Laity, the Body of the Church,
has already had its schism - as the number of members who attend Mass and who
adhere to other practices of the Faithful has already declined from over 70% to
less than 20%.
The promising efforts of Pope John
XXlll and Vatican ll in the 1960's were discounted and derided in the
subsequent decades.
The logical desires and needs of the
Laity and of the Church itself were ignored or denounced, in my opinion for no
good theological reasons:
the possible marriage of priests;
the permission for divorced and remarried Catholics to be restored to Holy Communion:
the use of non-abortifacient contraceptives and the elimination of the
"Unitive Function of Sex by committed married couples; even a Clear and
Unrelenting opposition to the abomination of Abortion and to its
"Catholic" supporters.
As a result, the Church now faces
the serious challenge of the "Synodal Way" by the entire German
Clergy.
See the Linked article by Fr.
Raymond J. De Souza.
That is the clear result of
obstinate - and I believe non-theological - refusal to consider and
compromise.
The Church had a similar experience
in the Past. It was called the Protestant Reformation.
I will continue to pray for my
Church, its leaders and its members.
