WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH #221
MORE ON THE CRISIS OF THE CLERGY - NOT OF THE LAITY.
This is a distinction with a very important difference.
The crisis of the Clergy is the Disease.
The changes in the actions of the Laity are the symptoms.
And
yet the Clergy - specifically the leadership, the Magisterium - is not
addressing what I deeply believe is the pathophysiology of the Disease.
See
two articles in the current edition of the National Catholic Register
(Sept. 30 - Oct. 13, 2018), clearly a reliable conservative voice
of the Church.
• "'Culture Of Predation' And Seminaries" (p3).
• "Archbishop Ganswein: Current Crisis Is Catholic Church's Own 9/11" (p9).
The
conservative Clergy leadership seems to assume the moral legitimacy and
the eternal relevance to human beings of the Church prohibitions
regarding celibacy and regarding a related sexual life for its Clergy -
and even regarding the existence of a biologic basis for a condition of
homosexuality. In its application to its Clergy and to its priests in
formation, this seems to me analogous to denying the central role of
Insulin in Diabetes Mellitus or of Coronary Artery Disease in
Myocardial Infarctions. In my opinion, this is the Disease. The reaction
of the Laity, the Body of the Church, is the symptom...ready to resolve
when the disease is properly addressed.
And I still hope and pray for Pope Francis.
