WHAT'S
WRONG-AND-RIGHT WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH #148
Rapid
Response for SATURDAY, November 8
2014
"THE
CATHOLIC CHURCH: ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC AND UNIVERSAL".
Although taken as Gospel by believers, this has always been much more a
hope than a fact down through the last 2,000 years. And now is no
exception. The usual suspects are even suggesting a "schism" over
the more open approach of Pope Francis and the strict approach whose
current face is Cardinal Burke.
Nonsense. The Catholic Church embraces several non-negotiables,
including Abortion of any human person from conception (union of sperm
and ovum), the Divinity of Jesus Christ, the Consecration....
Whether homosexuality is a biologic fact or a choice, whether the
dis-union of a marriage can only take place through the discredited
mechanism of "Anullment", whether the Church has Standing to inject
itself into the marital bed regarding the use of contraception by a
committed marital couple trying to determine in good faith the number
of children they can be responsible for, whether Priests can marry,
etc. are, in my opinion, NOT.
SEE ALSO THE ARTICLE ENTITLED "JESUS AND THE MODERN MAN", BY JAMES
CARROLL (NYTIMES SUNDAY, NOV. 9, 2014, SUNDAY REVIEW). This is a
heart-felt plea for guidance from a living Church, not from a barnacled
hulk.
I do not come recently to this position. See in this web-site,
under "Abortion..." and therein under "Catholic Church", my many
offerings under the rubric "What's Wrong (and Right) With The Catholic
Church." This, from a life-long and loyal Catholic. And so I will
remain.
