be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",

"WHY MENTAL HEALTH SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN CONNECTICUT SCHOOLS", by Jordana Castelli,
(in ctmirror.org, December 17, 2021).
This is a well-founded and well-articulated call for help. But it is not easily addressed or implemented.
And in the process, we must always remember the foundational tenet of medical care:
"PRIMUM NON NOCERE; FIRST DO NO HARM".
•
First, the requirement to establish a DIAGNOSIS! If all you offer
is " I have a pain", all you will get is: "Take two aspirin and call
your doctor in the morning".
• In addressing
particularly a Mental Pain, beware of opening Pandora's Box and being
unable to deal with its contents.
• Young people
of the last two or three generations have experienced a lot of mental
pain. Young people of prior generations did not. Why?
Committed, supportive parents;
A moral / ethical and nurturing society;
A school system that Taught rather than postured - and that held that Actions Have Consequences;
"Social
Media" that consisted of radio and movies that were actually monitored
for content...and "socializing" that actually involved physically
meeting and conversing with others.
The only "illicit drugs" even vaguely considered were cigarettes and beer.
A sense of Self and of Responsibility to family that at least balanced the childhood pressure to "go along to get along".
That's Why!

This, notwithstanding the fact that I have through the decades agreed with its editorial content less than 50% of the time.
Now comes another reason for our sometime disconnect...if anybody cares: its "Never Trump" posture.
Could
it be that through decades the WSJ has had to deal in business with a
man who is much less the hypocrite than their usual business-types?
Just asking.
Nevertheless, here are two recent articles that highlight the State of the Union and the State of International Affairs.

That's not the way 70 million voters see it - and are waiting for the
other shoe to fall. But he accurately diagnoses a vast number of
public and political and media people as LIARS. Add that to the rampant
STUPIDITY, and that is quite a "State of the Union".
Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, Putin is successfully playing our fearless leaders with their spineless postures.

"IN A DEMOCRACY, THE PEOPLE ALWAYS GET WHAT THEY DESERVE".
This truism has been around for a long time. It continues to be true.

On
a more global and historical scale, review an excellent summary of the
20th and 21st centuries from the eyes and experiences of Henry
Kissinger: "The Inevitability of Tragedy: Henry Kissinger And His World",
by Barry Gewen. (W.W. Norton and Co., 2020). An elegy to the
limitations of Human Nature, its sub-title could be "We Never Learn".
One of many lessons to be stressed from this work, very applicable to what is going on in America now, is that
democracy
can produce tyranny. The most recent and terrible example was Hitler's
Nazi Germany, conceived, born and suckled out of Weimar Republic
democracy - with Adolph Hilter's active participation throughout the
1920's.
Remember: MAKE THINGS HAPPEN, WATCH THINGS HAPPEN...OR KEEP SAYING "WHA HOPPEN". It's your future.

This serious and deadly infection came upon us - and may have been intentionally delivered to us - in late 2019.
This
nation mobilized onto a quasi - war footing in 2021 under the

in Record Time. The vaccine continues to be effective against new
variants.

Freedom" and "Economics" will lose out to Public Health, to
selflessness on behalf of family and neighbors, and to Common Sense.

Excluding
about a dozen Republican star legislators in the Senate and the House,
I can't distinguish most of the others from the entire current crop of
politicians whom I find entirely self-serving - much more than in past
decades.
Now see the Interview with Norman Podhoretz, by Barton Swaim, published in the WSJ December 11-12, 2021, Opinion, pA15. He also has trouble defining the American Right.
And
with regard to the Economy, which has always been Republicans' strong
suit, a friend well-versed in economic theory and fact offers this:
"Separation
of church and state and separation of money and state. Monetary policy
should NOT be set by the government. It should be set by the market and
based on gold...or by any other thing that cannot be created or
destroyed by homo sapiens. Bitcoin comes close until the electricity is
turned off. Liberty is freedom of individual responsibility. It is NOT
freedom from individual responsibility. As it is now, politicians use
monetary policy to increase government and its (their) power at the
expense of the people. There's a name for that: corruption."
More recently this has been including some "Republican" as well as Democratic politicians.
THE REPUBLICAN PART MUST OFFER A CLEAR ALTERNATIVE TO THE CORRUPTION AND ANTI-AMERICANISM ALL AROUND US.
Meanwhile, personally I hold tightly to the advice of the worldly Saint Augustine:

I have no personal education or training in the field of Economics. But at my age, I do have experience:
the Great Depression, the later 1970's, 1987, 2008.
And
for at least the last year I have been expressing concern in this
section about the actions of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell -
specifically about very low interest rates and the likelihood of that
producing inflation - and then perhaps a Recession / Depression.
And
here we are. And it turns out that the inflation rate we are now
experiencing is nowhere near the CPI rate of 6.7% touted by this
administration. It is much higher, as we are all experiencing.
