See, I grew up right here in Detroit during the '67 riots, watching tanks rolling down these streets. I remember snipers on the roofs.
 
I was with the Los Angeles Police Department when the Rodney King riots happened.
 
The police retreated, and let their city burn.
 
Since I've been Chief of Police in Detroit, the police have never retreated. We are here to protect our citizens.
 
But there's more to the "why?" than that.
 
When I came home to run the Detroit Police Department, it was in shambles. Morale, equipment – it all needed help. The response time to 911 calls was an hour, if you were lucky.
 
I started with Colony Arms – the epicenter of crime in Detroit. I made it an example. We mounted an assault. Twenty to thirty arrests later, we cleaned it up. It showed that the police force was back in Detroit and that we never again would allow criminals to rule our city.
 
I was the first in that day, leading from the front.

Then, I went into the city and met with every group I could find. Developed trust, showed what leadership could do.
 
So, when the unfortunate situation happened with George Floyd, and outsiders came here to try and burn us down, Detroit did not burn.
 
That's the why.
 
Living within the rules we set for others, instead of within some special rules for the elite.
 
No "rules for thee, not for me!"
 
Michigan has had enough of that. There are no kings and queens in America. Leading from the front. Why don't politicians get that?
 
Bringing our state back from the front. That's leadership.
 
I don't see much of that out there.

Sometimes people are surprised to hear that I’m a Republican.
 
I grew up a Democrat. But then I watched as Democrats allowed our cities to riot, to burn, and to fail. I watched as they pushed handouts that increase dependency on the government for political gain.
 
And what the Democratic Party stands for today – liberal wokeism and a perpetual victimhood mentality – those are NOT my values.
 
And I'm pretty sure you can guess MY position on "Defund the Police!"

Looking back on it, my values were always Republican values.

And I voted for President Trump in both elections – proudly.

We are fortunate that here in the Northeast, vaccination rates are among the highest in the country. It’s different nationally, though – the spread of the Delta variant is resulting in more cases and more hospitalizations. The large surges are happening in places where vaccination rates are low, but we are seeing a slight increase even in our region. The majority of these cases are in unvaccinated people, but breakthrough cases – where fully vaccinated individuals develop COVID-19, are also increasing. It’s important to note that the rate of hospitalization and deaths in fully vaccinated individuals are extremely low – proving that the vaccines are hugely effective in reducing severe cases of the disease.
 
In light of recent events, it important to remind all employees and medical staff, even those who are fully vaccinated, to stay home from work if you have any COVID symptoms. We must do all we can to prevent exposures to our patients and our coworkers.
 
The fact that the vast majority of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases occurs in unvaccinated individuals supports the importance of mandatory vaccination for all employees and members of our Medical staff, which we announced 2 weeks ago. If you aren’t yet vaccinated, please visit the Vaccine Information Center on the intranet for the latest vaccine clinic schedules and deadlines for COVID-19 vaccination. Of note, starting this week, our Occupational Health teams and managers will be granted access to identify individuals who have not yet been vaccinated. That said, vaccination status will only be disclosed to Occupational Health, an individual’s manager, and Medical Staff Administration for members of the Medical Staff.
 
Before the end of August, please get vaccinated, and encourage your coworkers to do the same. Also, self-monitor for symptoms and err of the side of caution if you don’t feel well – stay home and get tested. Both of these important actions are critical to ensuring we continue to keep our patients and colleagues as safe as possible.

I’ll never forget what my mom said to me as I was leaving for West Point to become a young Army cadet: “Michael, don’t ever let them wear you down, wear them out and give this challenge all you have.”

That’s exactly the mentality we all need right now when it comes to pushing back against the Democrats and their radical agenda. In the face of “cancel culture” and attacks by the “woke” mob, it might be easy to grow discouraged about the future of America, but we CAN’T give up. It’s not about doing what’s easy...it’s about doing what’s right.

Those who know me best know that I’ve never been one to take the easy route. After graduating first in my class at West Point, I served in the Cold War patrolling the Iron Curtain. When I returned, I opened and ran two manufacturing businesses in Kansas, championing the American worker.

Later, I became so worn out from Obama’s economy-crushing policies that I decided to run for Congress and fight for conservative policies myself. I then represented the United States on the world stage, first as Director of the CIA and finally as your 70th Secretary of State. Fighting back against radical ideas that threaten America’s strength has been my greatest honor. I have NEVER stopped fighting for our core values.
 
 

During my time at the State Department, I ended the naïve engagement with the Chinese Communist Party, pulling back the curtain shielding the egregious acts of the CCP that threaten American jobs and freedoms. I called out and punished perpetrators of attacks on basic human dignity in places like Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Iran, Nigeria and elsewhere.

But it’s not just on the political stage that I’ve taken a stand; we must all live out our values in everyday life. All of my views are shaped by my Christian faith, and my wife, Susan, and I have always put our faith at the center of our family. We taught fifth grade Sunday school and volunteered on numerous education, fine arts and local government programs and projects. One of my proudest accomplishments was coaching my son’s three-on-three basketball team to an undefeated season in summer league.

I mention all this because we must find ways to take a stand for what is right: in our jobs, our homes and our local communities. If we are going to turn our country around and refocus on the values that make America great, it is going to take a whole cavalry of patriotic Americans across the country, not just a handful of elected officials in Washington.

People who say there is no such thing as gender are demanding a female President.

Universities that advocate equality, discriminate against Asian-Americans in favor of African-Americans.

Some people are held responsible for things that happened before they were born, and other people are not held responsible for what they are doing right now.

Criminals are caught and released to hurt more people,  but stopping them is bad because it's a violation of THEIR rights.

People who have never owned slaves should pay slavery reparations to people who have never been slaves.

After legislating gender, if a dude pretends to be a woman,  you are required to pretend with him.

People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees.

Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome,  but you’d better be able to prove your dog is vaccinated.

Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to the US  must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate gang-bangers who jump the southern fence are welcomed.

If you cheat to get into college you go to prison, but if you cheat to get into the country you go to college for free.

And, pointing out all this hypocrisy somehow makes us "racists"!

Nothing makes sense anymore, no values, no morals, no civility, and people are dying of a Chinese virus, but it is racist to refer to it as Chinese even though it began in China.
