RAPID
RESPONSE (Archives)...Daily Commentary on News of the Day
This is a new
section. It will
offer fresh,
quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in
this rapid-fire world of ours. Of course, as in military
campaigns,
a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed
by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction. Charge that
to
"the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or
military
campaign must maintain to be effective. But the mission will
always
be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",
supported
by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be
pro-active.
That's all I promise.

KEEPING UP WITH MORE TIMELY TOPICS.
1)
Referring to the current Bill before Connecticut legislators and
Governor Lamont about Public Safety (aka Police), this Democratic State
is once again about to earn its standing as the 46th or 47th in the
nation for Bad Policies. See the recent article by Lee Elci in The Day.
A related Day Editorial tries to give a balanced review, but includes
the statement: "None of this is "anti-police" or would make our
communities less safe". Baloney.
2)
Connecticut teachers (unionized, of course) demand "safe re-openings of
schools". We all do. What they and their national unions really want is
No re-opening of schools. Despite their recurring actions as just
another self-centered trade union, they are supposed to be
Professionals with a critical human mission, akin to that of physicians
and nurses. What would happen if physicians and nurses would "demand
safe re-openings...."
"Professionals". Remember that idea when you were in training?
Meanwhile,
Governor Lamont and the New London school are trying to achieve a
balanced outcome for their wards -who urgently need adult action.
See the article (ctmirror.org, July 28, 2020, by Thomas and Pananjady) entitled: "A quarter of CT students went MIA when COVID closed schools." The percentage for Blacks and hispanics was actually 50%.
3) "Eighteen Is Too Young To Vote",
by David Gelernter, (in WSJ July 29, 2020, Opinion, pA15). Given this
generational crop of immature Know-Nothings", I second that motion.
They will have a hard enough time "finding
themselves" in the swamp that has become of a lot of "Higher Education".
See: "Higher Ed And The Fragmentation Of America", by Orrin Hatch (in WSJ July 28, 2020, Opinion, pA17).
4) See the following two articles; a) "Inside Amazon, Apple, Facebook And Google Versus The Feds", by Serwer and Zahn (in yahoo.com/finance, July 25, 2020); and b) "Bezos, Zuckerberg, Other Big Tech CEOs Testifying Wednesday In Competition Probe", by Marcy Gordon (in The Day, July 29, 2020).

To America, From a Worried European Friend
A country convinced that it is irredeemably racist can’t lead the world as the ‘indispensable nation.’
By Daniel Schwammenthal
July 28, 2020 12:39 pm ET
Brussels
History
and evolutionary biology teach us that the normal course of human
affairs is tribalism, oppression and poverty. The emergence of liberal
democracies isn’t the inevitable endpoint of supposedly linear Western
progress but an aberration—and a rather fragile one at that.
This
is why the rising illiberalism in the U.S. is so troubling. Activists
who seem to understand George Orwell’s “1984” not as a warning but as a
manual see free speech—the lifeblood of democracy and human
betterment—as a fascist tool of oppression. Other classical liberal
ideals—a colorblind society, rational discourse, the scientific
method—suffer the same fate.
These unenlightened views have spread
with lightning speed. Once confined to the campuses of the nation’s
elite universities, they have moved into the mainstream of public
discourse. America’s future leaders have been spoon-fed two theories
born of Marxism. One is postmodernism, so called because it rejects the
liberal ideas of modernity and the very notion of objective truth. The
other is critical theory, which is preoccupied with uncovering hidden
power structures that have supposedly stood in the way of a communist
revolution.
These once-fringe theories have given rise to
quasi-religious dogmas that divide society into hierarchies of
oppressor and oppressed, setting the stage for eternal societal strife.
In this new cult, dissent or insufficient fervor is interpreted both as
validation of the doctrine of ubiquitous racism and a punishable
thought crime. As in medieval witch hunts, both denial and forced
confessions prove the defendant’s guilt.
On the other end of the
political spectrum we find right-wing populism, which imagines “pure
people” taking on a corrupt elite, and of course the far right, with
its Nazi infatuation. The wide availability of guns in the U.S. isn’t
only a subject of dispute in the unfolding culture war but could help
turn it deadly. Witness the recent synagogue shootings by real white
supremacists. Anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism are obsessions shared by
the far left and the far right. America is headed for unprecedented
polarization and possibly civil unrest.
But why am I, a German Jew
living in Brussels, so worried about U.S. domestic affairs? As the
adage goes, when America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold.
Right now, America has pneumonia.
I learned to cherish the U.S. long
before I had the privilege to live and study there. History can be very
personal. What Madeleine Albright called the “indispensable nation”
meant the difference between life and death for my family. I was
brought up in the firm knowledge that had it not been for those
unimaginably brave American boys storming the beaches of Normandy, I
wouldn’t have been born, and my parents and the rest of my people would
have been extinguished. No doubt I’m leaving out entire libraries of
nuance, but that is the quintessential truth.
America today is
what it has always been: a flawed society, like all others, but also a
unique force for good in the world. No other multiethnic,
multireligious society can credibly claim to be more democratic, more
prosperous and more just than the U.S.
But America can’t remain the
leader of the free world if it is itself no longer free. To be the
guarantor of Western security requires military and economic power, but
also a sense of mission. And right now, Americans are committing mass
character suicide. If the country goes beyond acknowledging that racism
and inequality persist and must be fought, and instead convinces itself
that it’s inherently and irredeemably racist, it can’t possibly
continue to believe that it has any right to lead. Such an America
would reject the notion that the West is worth defending and regard
Europe as also inherently oppressive. We know who will fill the vacuum
left by an America in retreat and at war with itself. As they watch
America’s self-immolation, leaders in Moscow, Beijing and Tehran surely
can’t believe their luck.
Any functioning society must extend tribal
loyalty beyond the ties of blood. Ethnicity and Christianity were the
glue that helped hold the more homogenous European nation states
together. America’s Founding Fathers laid the foundation of a society
worthy of the motto “e pluribus Unum”—out of many, one—by replacing
ethnic and religious loyalties with liberal ideas and deist ideals. A
shared loyalty to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution
allows Americans to see each other not as strangers but as fellow
citizens.
Yes, the U.S. has not always lived up to its ideals. But
to claim that the Founding’s “promissory note” was never anything but a
scam to maintain a system of white oppression is ahistorical
revisionism that will erode the country’s foundation.
European
anti-Americanism constantly imagines the rise of fascism in the very
country that defeated the real thing and constantly predicts the end of
liberty in the world’s oldest democracy. I have always proudly opposed
this view. But I am reminded now of Benjamin Franklin’s famous line: “A
Republic, if you can keep it.” For the first time I have terrifying
doubts.

• THE PUBLIC EDUCATION CABAL NEVER FAILS TO DISAPPOINT.
As a preface, please visit my website section entitled "Public Education Politics".
Then
see the continuing results - poor achievement and dashed hopes - most
clearly reflected in the continuing opposition to charter schools and
to private school assistance. See: "Thomas Sowell Has Been Right From
The Start", by Jason L. Riley (in WSJ July 22, 2020, Opinion, pA15).
And
currently let's see the teachers' unions stance regarding the
absolutely critical return of their students to school, properly
safeguarded. See: "The Governor Says it's Safe To Reopen Schools, But
Will Teachers Return?", by Jacqueline Rabe Thomas (in
ctmirror.org/2020/07/22/ct-schools...).
This shameful story never

the last many decades.

Ultra-Rich Billionaires like Bill Gates...and even George Soros...are a
welcome part of our social structure - unless they are either CHEAP

can't these Billionaires do good while doing well - like donating 90%

Heritage Action for America
“Rioting” no longer describes what is happening on our streets—no, our great cities are under siege.
Nowhere
is this more clear than the striking photos and videos that came out of
Portland this week. For over 50 days, the Leftist mob has gathered
night after night to spread fear, intimidate dissenters, and attack
personal and Federal property.
The
Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse has been ground zero for their
lawlessness. Protesting is not leaving graffiti, starting fires, and
throwing bricks. This is not how democracy works.
The
real story is getting buried by the mainstream media. But there are
good journalists out there doing the work to document the chaos and
violence.
>>> Check out the Daily Signal’s reporting on the Portland riots:
• 13 Images of the Chaos Created by ‘Violent Anarchists’ in Portland
• She’s Been on the Ground Covering Portland Protests. Here’s What She’s Seen.
• 4 Things to Know About the Mob Violence in Portland
• ‘We Will Not Retreat’: DHS’ Chad Wolf Defends Portland Intervention Amid Riots
The Left isn’t trying to fix America—they are trying to cancel her.
Whether
it be The New York Times' “1619 Project” or the mobs tearing down
statues of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, it’s clear that
Liberals want to erase our history so we forget what America stands for.
But
grassroots conservatives are fighting for America—and some of our
elected leaders are too. To expose the Left’s blatant hypocrisy, Rep.
Louie Gohmert (R-TX) introduced legislation banning the Democratic
party from Congress and requiring them to change their name.
Why?
Because according to Gohmert, "A great portion of the history of the
Democratic Party is filled with racism and hatred. To avoid triggering
innocent bystanders by the racist past of the Democratic Party, I would
suggest they change their name. That is the standard to which they are
holding everyone else, so the name change needs to occur."
It
will take more than a resolution to preserve America. But winning on
the policy and messaging fights is an important part of shaping our
society.
The other part is engaged citizens making a difference. And there is no better place to do that than at the ballot box.

2) Follow medical advice and instructions, especially during these difficult times when adherence is difficult but vital.

MORE ABOUT COVID-19: NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS.
Over
recent weeks I have come to the conclusion that the scientists were
caught flat-footed when - expecting COVID-19 to be similar to the
Corona viruses of 2002, 2007, and MERS, they found that their
"Projections" didn't fit this NEW VIRUS. And it IS new and different.
On
top of that, they couldn't throw off (until recently with painful
experience) their long-standing Bias against the proper (timing and
dosage) use of Adrenocorticosteroids (eg. Dexamethasone). That a major
part of the pathophysiology of COVID-19 infection was the explosion of
the Immune System's Inflammatory process was clear to me very early -
as documented in my RR's.
The Politics of the Pandemic has been an
added very injurious part of the process, individually and
collectively. We will be living with the after-effects - individually
and collectively - for a long time to come.

"IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT SOMEONE,

Nice
thought. Even realistic and applicable to every day living...until

In
recent days, I watched on Netflix documentaries entitled "The Queen"

See

With the exception of the current

"Seven Deadly Sins": Pride, Covetousness, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy

Believe What You Want!
Something to think about….
The
US Population is 330,000,000 and in 5 months the number of deaths was
130,000. The number of deaths as a percent of the population is 0.03939
%, compared to the number of cancer cases diagnosed in 2019 (1,762.450)
and 607,000 deaths.
This doesn’t seem far-fetched because it is happening before our eyes.
A
very well-orchestrated plan, or an unimaginable set of events that just
fell into place with the United States front and center? Your call.
Scare people with a virus, force them to wear masks and place them in quarantine.
Count
the number of deaths every second of every day, in every News Headline.
By the way, ninety-nine and eight-tenths percent of the people who get
the virus recover. About one to two-tenths of one percent who get
the virus, die. Most of them have other medical problems.
Did you catch that? Less than 1/2 of a percent die.
Close businesses = 35,000,000+ instantly unemployed.
Remove entertainment and prohibit Recreation; Closing parks, gyms, bars, restaurants, sports.
No dating. No touching. Isolate people. Dehumanize them.
Close
Temples, Churches, Mosques and prohibit worship. Close schools. Create
a vacuum and let depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and desperation set
in.
Then, ignite hatred and civil unrest, creating Civil War.
Empty the prisons because of the virus and fill the streets with criminals.
Undermine
the law, Riot, Loot and Attack all Law Enforcement. For example, send
in Antifa (freedom fighters?) to vandalize property, but tell the
government to order a stand-down. Then... Defund Law Enforcement and
abolish Police.
We
are all being played by those who want to destroy America! This is how
you destroy a Nation from within and in a very short order. Will it

Khrushchev's Message 61 years ago
Khrushchev also said "We [Communism} will bury you!” A quick read but a lasting thought. Pretty scary now.
THIS
WAS HIS ENTIRE QUOTE: A sobering reminder. Almost exactly
sixty years ago since Russia’s Khrushchev delivered his. Do you
remember September 29, 1959? THIS WAS HIS ENTIRE QUOTE:
"Your
children's children will live under communism, You Americans are so
gullible. No, you won't accept communism outright; but we will
keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you will finally wake
up and find you already have Communism. We will not have to fight
you; We will so weaken your economy, until you will fall like overripe
fruit into our hands." "The democracy will cease to exist when
you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who
would not."
Do you remember what Russia's Khrushchev said in 1959?
Remember, socialism leads to Communism. So, how do you create a Socialistic State?
There are 8 levels of control; read the following recipe:
1) Healthcare - Control healthcare and you control the people.
2)
Poverty - Increase the poverty level as high as possible, poor people
are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing
everything for them.
3) Debt - Increase the debt to an
unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this
willproduce more poverty.
4) Gun Control - Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government That way you are able to create a police state.
5)
Welfare - Take control of every aspect (food, housing, income) of their
lives because that will make them fully dependent on the government.
6) Education - Take control of what people read and listen to and take control of what children learn in school.
7)
Religion - Remove the belief in God from the Government and schools
because the people need to believe in ONLY the government knowing what
is best for the people.
8) Class Warfare - Divide the people
into the wealthy and the poor. Eliminate the middle class This
will cause more discontent and it will be easier to tax the wealthy
with the support of the poor

That is the news cycle we're all in now - with no end in sight until

1) A "Must Read" is an excellent article by Heather Mac Donald in the May-June publication of Imprimis (Hillsdale.Edu) entitled:
"Four Months Of Unprecedented Government Malfeasance".
It is a detailed review of how we got to where we are with this Pandemic.
That
she is correct is documented in another of her articles (WSJ July 9,

2)
Regarding the facts and the idiocy surrounding discussions about police
and public safety, see Lee Elci's article entitled "More Cops, Better
Training, Zero Tolerance for Brutality and Racist Actions" (in
The

"increase the penalty for resisting arrest to a felony". Respect for
the badge must be restored!
And to this I add: much better
marksmanship training, so as to avoid lethal shots in favor of other
body targets, and using heavier than 9mm guns for greater stopping
power.
3) The Day Editorials continue to miss the mark regarding the coming election- by a long shot. Check out two recent editorials:

"...100,000 of the 1.2 million absentee ballot applications mailed to

Instead, see the
article in Reuters by Lange and Lewis (July 19, 2020) entitiled: "Epic

GS - UPDATE ON CORONAVIRUS, JULY 2020
Here are some thoughts, well outlined in my RR over the last 4 months, but presented rather randomly here.
1)
We knew - too late thanks to China and the WHO - that this corona
virus was going to be different from those of 2002 and 2007 and.... Of
course, we didn't know how it was going to be different. So the
projections were all over the place, as were the "scientific
recommendations". We did know quickly that it was different from1918:
different target population.
2) I believe that President Trump acted
judiciously initially, and that he followed the advice that he was
being given initially. He always kept concerned about the nation as a
whole and about the population as a whole, and especially as the
scientific information and advice began to be proved wrong by
experience. That is the job of Leadership...the Command structure as
distinguished from the Service structure, as established in the
Military.
3) Some scientists / Service structure like Dr. Fauci,
seemed to chafe at not being part of the Command structure. And thus
they over - reached at times. That did not and does sit well with the
Leadership, especially with Trump.
4) Meanwhile, back in the ICU,
physicians and scientists were too wedded to their "protocols", missing
the forest for the trees. One big Miss, as I expressed very early on,
was the Fact that the main driver of this illness was and is the (not
uncommon) gross overreaction of the Inflammatory System part of our
Immune System - that which kills the patient before the disease does
(eg. Sepsis). That's why early on I called for the proper use of
Adrenocorticosteroids to tamp and reverse that deadly and multi-system
reaction. To no avail - until they recently "discovered" that
Dexamethasone works and may be "Standard of Care". You don't say....
5)
Enter Politics, early on, especially in New York City, the epicenter of
the Pandemic in America: Cuomo vs de Blasio...and everybody else. That
is the pandemic that sadly and devastatingly has been raging in America
at least since Trump Won! And that may be the Greatest Victim: America
itself.
6) What to Do?
Common Sense:
a) social distancing for All, school children included;
b) masks Required when social distancing is not possible;
c) avoid crowded gatherings, especially where a and b cannot be practised;
d)
instruct the juveniles in our midst (extending into their 30's and
40's) - the Stupid Generations - on a,b and c - and punish them
severely for total breaches that have occurred and that continue to
occur - on our streets, our beaches, and in crowded pubic and private
parties - like the "Covid-19 Parties" held to see "who would get it". I
would like to spank these Idiots - with a 2x4.
e) get the kids of
all ages BACK TO SCHOOL this Fall, with proper precautions as outlined
by me and others. And if the Teachers' Unions' members don't want to go
back - mainly for political reasons - FIRE THEM.
f) continue to
allow this Federal Republic to operate as such, as a Republic of 50
individual States, with Federal help and regulation only as the
situation affects interstate commerce - and our international relations.
Bottom Line: We Have To Live With This Thing.

The girl with the apples
A story of survival from the Holocaust
and the mysterious ways of God that drew people together here
in America after their lives had touched in the dark days of Hitler.
August 1942. Piotrkow, Poland:
The sky was gloomy that morning as we waited anxiously.
All the men, women and children of Piotrkow's Jewish ghetto
had been herded into a square.
Word had gotten around that we were being moved. My father
had only recently died from typhus, which had run rampant
through the crowded ghetto. My greatest fear was that our
family would be separated.
'Whatever you do,' Isidore, my eldest brother, whispered to me,
'don't tell them your age. Say you're sixteen.' I was tall for a boy
of 11, so I could pull it off. That way I might be deemed valuable
as a worker.
An SS man approached me, boots clicking against the cobblestones.
He looked me up and down, and then asked my age. 'Sixteen,' I said.
He directed me to the left, where my three brothers and other healthy
young men already stood.
My mother was motioned to the right with the other women,
children, sick and elderly people. I whispered to Isidore, 'Why?'
He didn't answer.
I ran to Mama's side and said I wanted to stay with her. 'No, 'she
said sternly. 'Get away. Don't be a nuisance. Go with your
brothers.'
She had never spoken so harshly before. But I understood:
She was protecting me. She loved me so much that, just this once,
she pretended not to. It was the last I ever saw of her.
My brothers and I were transported in a cattle car to Germany.
We arrived at the Buchenwald concentration camp one night later and
were led into a crowded barrack. The next day, we were issued
uniforms and identification numbers. 'Don't call me Herman
anymore,' I said to my brothers. 'Call me 94983.'
I was put to work in the camp's crematorium, loading the dead into a
hand-cranked elevator. I, too, felt dead. Hardened, I had become a number.
Soon, my brothers and I were sent to Schlieben, one of Buchenwald's
sub-camps near Berlin. One morning I thought I heard my mother's voice.
'Son,' she said softly but clearly, I am going to send you an angel.'
Then I woke up. Just a dream. A beautiful dream. But in this place
there could be no angels. There was only work. And hunger. And fear.
A couple of days later, I was walking around the camp, around the
barracks, near the barbed wire fence where the guards could not
easily see. I was alone.
On the other side of the fence, I spotted someone: a little girl with
light, almost luminous curls. She was half-hidden behind a birch tree.
I glanced around to make sure no one saw me. I called to her softly in
German. 'Do you have something to eat?' She didn't understand.
I inched closer to the fence and repeated the question in Polish. She
stepped forward. I was thin and gaunt, with rags wrapped around my
feet, but the girl looked unafraid. In her eyes, I saw life.
She pulled an apple from her woollen jacket and threw it over the
fence. I grabbed the fruit and, as I started to run away, I heard her say
faintly, 'I'll see you tomorrow.'
I returned to the same spot by the fence at the same time every day.
She was always there with something for me to eat - a hunk of bread
or, better yet, an apple. We didn't dare speak or linger. To be caught
would mean death for us both.
I didn't know anything about her, just a kind farm girl, except that
she understood Polish. What was her name? Why was she risking
her life for me? Hope was in such short supply, and this girl on the
other side of the fence gave me some, as nourishing in its way as the
bread and apples.
Nearly seven months later, my brothers and I were crammed into a
coal car and shipped to Theresienstadt camp in Czechoslovakia. 'Don't
return,' I told the girl that day. 'We're leaving.'
I turned toward the barracks and didn't look back, didn't even say
good-bye to the little girl whose name I'd never learned, the girl
with the apples. We were in Theresienstadt for three months.
The war was winding down and Allied forces were closing in, yet
my fate seemed sealed.
On May 10, 1945, I was scheduled to die in the gas chamber at 10:00
AM. In the quiet of dawn, I tried to prepare myself. So many times death
seemed ready to claim me, but somehow I'd survived. Now, it was over.
I thought of my parents. At least, I thought, we will be reunited.
But at 8 a.m. there was a commotion. I heard shouts, and saw people
running every which way through camp. I caught up with my brothers.
Russian troops had liberated the camp! The gates swung open. Everyone
was running, so I did too. Amazingly, all of my brothers had survived;
I'm not sure how. But I knew that the girl with the apples had been the
key to my survival.
In a place where evil seemed triumphant, one person's goodness had
saved my life, had given me hope in a place where there was none.
My mother had promised to send me an angel, and the angel had
come.
Eventually I made my way to England where I was sponsored by a
Jewish charity, put up in a hostel with other boys who had
survived the Holocaust and trained in electronics. Then I came to
America , where my brother Sam had already moved. I served in
the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and returned to New York
City after two years.
By August 1957 I'd opened my own electronics repair shop. I was
starting to settle in.
One day, my friend Sid who I knew from England called me. 'I've got
a date. She's got a Polish friend. Let's double date.' A blind date?
Nah, that wasn't for me. But Sid kept pestering me, and a few days
later we headed up to the Bronx to pick up his date and her friend Roma.
I had to admit, for a blind date this wasn't so bad. Roma was a nurse
at a Bronx hospital. She was kind and smart. Beautiful, too, with swirling
brown curls and green, almond-shaped eyes that sparkled with life.
The four of us drove out to Coney Island. Roma was easy to talk to,
easy to be with. Turned out she was wary of blind dates too!
We were both just doing our friends a favor. We took a stroll on the
boardwalk, enjoying the salty Atlantic breeze, and then had dinner
by the shore. I couldn't remember having a better time. We piled
back into Sid's car, Roma and I sharing the backseat.
As European Jews who had survived the war, we were aware that
much had been left unsaid between us. She broached the
subject, 'Where were you,' she asked softly, 'during the war?' 'The
camps,' I said. The terrible memories still vivid, the irreparable
loss..I had tried to forget. But you can never forget.
She nodded. 'My family was hiding on a farm in Germany , not far
from Berlin ,' she told me. 'My father knew a priest, and he got us
Aryan papers.' I imagined how she must have suffered too, fear,
a constant companion. And yet here we were both survivors, in a new
world.
'There was a camp next to the farm.' Roma continued. 'I saw a boy
there and I would throw him apples every day.' What an amazing
coincidence that she had helped some other boy. 'What did he look
like? I asked. 'He was tall, skinny, and hungry. I must have seen him
every day for six months.'
My heart was racing. I couldn't believe it. This couldn't be. 'Did he tell
you one day not to come back because he was leaving Schlieben?'
Roma looked at me in amazement. 'Yes!' 'That was me!'
I was ready to burst with joy and awe, flooded with emotions. I
couldn't believe it! My angel.
'I'm not letting you go.' I said to Roma. And in the back of the car on
that blind date, I proposed to her. I didn't want to wait.
'You're crazy!' she said. But she invited me to meet her parents for
Shabbat dinner the following week.
There was so much I looked forward to learning about Roma, but
the most important things I always knew: her steadfastness, her
goodness. For many months, in the worst of circumstances, she
had come to the fence and given me hope. Now that I'd found her
again, I could never let her go.
That day, she said yes. And I kept my word. After nearly 50 years of
marriage, two children and three grandchildren, I have never let her go.

Letter To A Columnist
This
is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an
article he published concerning a name challange for the Washington
Redskins.
Dear Mr. Page:
I agree with our Native American
population. I am highly jilted by the racially charged name of the
Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional
football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors,
but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of
political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.
Let's
ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland
Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name
Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland
Browns.
The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the
memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. It's offensive to
us white folk.
The New York Yankees offend the Southern population.
Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for
any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young
men's lives. I am also offended by the blatant references to the
Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to
have the New
Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.
Then
there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged.
We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota
Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh
Pirates!
Now,
let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our
children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even
spending habits. Wrong message to our children.
The New York Giants
and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood
epidemic. Wrong message to our children. The Cincinnati Reds promote
downers/barbituates. Wrong message to our children.
The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children.
So,
there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to
rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become
involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the
do-nothing Congress loves.
As a die-hard Oregon State fan, my
wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some
sense to change the name of the
Oregon State women's athletic teams
to something other than "the Beavers (especially when they play
Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the
Beavers???
I always love your articles and I generally agree with
them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to
the "Foreskins" to better represent their community, paying tribute to
the dick heads in Washington DC.

"WHA HOPPEN"...AT THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT?
1)
In the issue of the fishing expedition re. President Trump's financial
records, the USSC applied to Congress one of the traditional USSC tests
for challenging the legitimacy of legislative action: "Legitimate
Legislative Intent".
(The other test is "Strict Scrutiny", much more stringent).
See: "Supreme Loser: Pelosi's House", by K. Strassel (WSJ July 10, 2020).
2) "Religious Liberty Lives At The High Court" (WSJ Editorial, July 9, 2020).
They got that right.
3) The USSC opened up a "Pandora's Box" with the redefinition of "Sex".
See the two related articles in National Catholic Register, July 5-18, 2020.
They thus invited much more litigation to come.
4)
With its reliance on "Stare Decisis" (precedent), a very thin reed in
this realm, in overturning a Kentucky abortion law, the USSC signaled
that it is not ready to decide legitimately about Abortion. "Roe v.

all of its progeny have been bastards. Only when the Personhood of a

Rambling Thoughts of an Old Man
Jimmy G. Swan
07/02/2020
These are my thoughts and mine alone, and I am probably going to catch hell for them.
I sit here watching our country tear itself to pieces, and it brings tears to my eyes.
I wonder why, why has the most wonderful country in the world become such a quagmire of hatred, selfishness, and pure meanness.
I
watch the news, and I see thugs, no let me rephrase that, I see trash
looting, burning, tearing down, and assaulting innocent people.
I
see young white people carrying signs complaining about how unjust the
United States is. Where do they get these ideas? Do they get them from
their parents, or is it that wonderful college education that their
parents went into debt for? Maybe it is they that borrowed the money to
learn how terrible the United States is.
They are judging a system and have no real example of judging it by, only what some socialist professor has told them.
To
these I say, get out, get a job and, after spending a few years working
for a living, then come back and tell me about it. Please spend a few
nights on a drilling rig with the north wind blowing about 20 knots
with rain and sleet running down your collar, then tell me how bad you
have it. Spend a summer when it is 100 degrees in the shade, digging a
foundation for a building, then tell me how bad you have it.
Do
you know what your primary problem is? You have never had to work hard
and then feel the pride when you get that first paycheck and think,
“man, I earned that.”
It’s
not only the white kids’ problem; the black community has the same
problem. Your pride has been stolen from you, and as much as I hate to
admit it, the white people were the ones that did it.
When
the “Great Society” was issued in and President Lyndon Johnson said to
his Congress, “give me what I want in funds, and I’ll have those
niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.” Then to make
sure, destroy the family unit, a condition of welfare was that to
receive welfare, the father could not live in the home.
However,
the government will pay you for any illegitimate children as long as
the father is not present. Thereby driving the father away from his
family and destroying any pride he may have had. No wonder there is
such anger and resentment in the black race. If you don’t respect me as
a man, then I’ll make you respect me when I tear up your world. I hear
the comment made that whites are holding back black kids. What a crock
of hog slop and what a slap in the face to men like Dr. Ben Carson,
Four Star General Chappy James, or Dr. Schulman, the surgeon who
operated on my spine and stopped my leg from being paralyzed.
Dr.
Ben Carson, a mother with a third-grade education and a library card
started him on the road to becoming one of the most exceptional
surgeons this country has ever had.
General
Chappy James trained black pilots, a Tuskegee airman, and became the
first four-star black general officer in the Air Force.
Dr.
Schulman, born in South Africa, became a top spinal surgeon, operated
on my back. The list goes on and on. There are black Doctors, Lawyers,
Engineers, and many, many great artisans.
What
do you think you are accomplishing by tearing down statues? Has that
changed history? Does that make you feel more like a man? How would you
feel if we wanted to tear down a statue of Martin Luther King? How
about changing the name of a street named after him? You don’t hear any
of the successful black men and women crying about the statues making
them feel bad.
While
we are on the subject of statues, the word is out that a mob is going
to take the statue of Jackson, the last statue in New Orleans, the one
in Jackson square, down by force this weekend regardless of who tries
to stop them. They don’t own that statue, that statue belongs to the
people of New Orleans.
No
one had the right to take all the others down either. We figured the
mayor had the right. He wanted to gain favor in the Democratic party.
He just thought Hilary would win the Presidency, and he would ride in
on her coattails. That didn’t work for him.
Enough of that, let’s get back to the original idea.
Why
can’t the rioters see that they are being used by a group of people
that are out to destroy the United States for whatever their reasons
are? Is it just a good way to steal and get some things that you want
without working for them?
What
I don’t understand is what do they expect when they take the statues
down. Nothing has changed. The civil war still happened; slavery still
happened, and all their pretending doesn’t change a thing.
Another
thing I don’t understand is this wanting the whites to pay for
something that happened so many years ago. Why are blacks the only race
that thinks someone owes them something?
Some
of my ancestors were German who left Germany in the middle 1800s and
came to the United States. I have not had one Jew ask or want me to pay
them reparation for the holocaust. The Jewish race has probably been
one of the most enslaved races in history. After their defeat, by the
Romans, at Masada in 79 AD, the price of a Jewish slave was so low a
Roman couldn’t give them away. Do you hear a Jew whining? Not for a
minute; they educate themselves and contribute great things to society,
making this world a better place to live.
The
Irish are another group of people that had a rough time. In the late
1800s and early 1900s, an Irish immigrant couldn’t get a job here under
any conditions. In the 1600s and 1700s Irish men and women were
captured by the English and sold as slaves or indentured servants in
the Caribbean islands. The Irish women were used as breeding stock for
the black slaves trying to make stronger, healthier slaves.
If
there is any group of people that have a right to complain, riot, ask
for reparation, and any other consideration, it has to be the American
native. At the end of the civil war, the blacks were given 40 acres and
a mule. At the end of the Indian Wars, the Indians were put on
reservations that would hardly grow cactus.
I warned you at the start the this was the rambling thoughts of an old man, so you have no complaints.
I
just don’t understand what the rioting and civil unrest are all about.
Admitted an “innocent” man died, but the man that killed him has been
arrested and charged and will stand trial. This is not the first
miscarriage of justice and won’t be the last.
Where
was all the rioting when OJ Simpson walked out a free man after killing
a white man and woman? Where was all the rioting when four black men
and a black woman carjacked Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, a
white boy, and girl, then tortured and killed them in the worst way.
The boy was sodomized with some object, raped, blindfolded, murdered,
and his body burned and left beside a railroad track. The girl was
repeatedly raped, tortured, Clorox poured down her throat to cover oral
sex DNA, and her body scrubbed with Clorox for the same reason. Her
hands and feet were bound, and a plastic bag was put over her head, and
she slowly suffocated. Was this permissible because the killers didn’t
have on blue uniforms?
My
point is that bad things are happening on both, no, all sides, so why
do blacks think they are justified in rioting, burning the city down,
destroying other people’s livelihood, and even killing? You have not
furthered your cause, only caused more resentment towards the black
race even though you had many misguided white people with you. The
unfortunate thing is that you are being led by people that don’t give a
damn about you or your cause. All they want is to cause discord and
division between the races, thereby weakening the country.
I started to say I feel for you, but I want to change that to I feel for all of us because this is not going end well.
RR#2
THIS IS THE HISTORY THAT THE BLM, ANTIFA AND THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO TEAR DOWN AND HIDE.
How can the Black man in the street not know or want to know this.?
Too many of them still allow themselves to be enslaved by such ignorance.

Just Explain This!
1.
Rioters and protesters tore down the monuments to Francis Scott Key,
author of the Star-Spangled Banner, our National Anthem, and the statue
of Father Junipero Serra, founder of the Spanish Missions in
California. The monument to Christopher Columbus in NYC was defaced as
was St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The New York Museum of Natural History
just decided to remove the statue of Teddy Roosevelt, which has stood
at the entrance of the museum since 1940.
It
seems that young revolutionaries want to rewrite our history, but how
is that possible? You cannot erase history; you can only learn from it.
George Santayana once wrote, “ those who ignore the lessons of history
are condemned to repeat it .” So, I am wondering, if we consciously try
to erase history and rewrite it as we believe it should have been, how
will we ever learn of the mistakes we made in the past so that they
will not be made again? But here's a thought: Why not get back to
teaching history instead of advocacy in schools?
2.
So, if a police officer shoots a criminal after being assaulted by that
criminal, it is the cop’s fault, but if a criminal shoots someone, it’s
the gun’s fault? Help me understand that, please.
3.
I am probably old-fashioned, but it has been my experience that police
typically leave you alone if you are not doing illegal stuff. So here
is another thought: How about teaching our kids to be responsible for
their actions and respect police, adults, and senior citizens? This is
a process that begins in the home.
4.
Does Black Lives Matter (BLM) include aborted black babies, murdered
black police officers, black on black killings, or does BLM respond
only when a white police officer kills a black man or woman?
5.
So, now the classic movie Gone with the Wind has been removed, and high
school students no longer are asked to read the Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain or To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper
Lee.. They are banished from school curricula. That is sad and a
significant loss from an educational perspective.
Does
anyone remember Hattie McDaniel? She was the first black American
actress to win an Oscar for her performance in - wait for it - Gone
with the Wind. Is her name and performance now cast aside and gone
forever because of the new revolutionaries telling us what we can and
cannot read or see?
6.
Rest in Peace Aunt Jemimah (1893-2020) and Uncle Ben (1943-2020). Cause
of death: Liberal Stupidity. Whatever happened to Common Sense?
7. Why would President Barack Hussein Obama have a Presidential Library? What the hell would it contain?
8.
In the last four years, can you name any piece of legislation, any
program that benefited America and Americans coming from the Democrats?
What exactly have they done over the last four years? Come to think of
it, Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for President and former VP
under Barack Hussein Obama, is an enigma. He has been in government 51
years! What exactly has he done for America and Americans in all those
years? What is his platform?
9.
The Prophet Mohammed was a pedophile, murderer, and slave trader. Why
are there no riots to burn down mosques? How about the Pyramids of
Egypt? Slaves built them. Why are there no riots and efforts to destroy
these? Ditto for The Great Wall of China.
10.
Maybe its just me, but if I have a problem with my faucets, drains, or
showers, I call a plumber to help. If I have a question about taxes, I
call my accountant. If I have a fever or upset stomach, I call my
doctor. But if I want advice on politics or economics or international
relations, I would not be inclined to call Lebron James or any other
athlete. How about you?
11.
I read where Alexandria Ocasio Cortez was laughing, and high-fiving
people for scamming the Trump Rally in Oklahoma and having teens and
others register for advance tickets to it and not show up. Fascinating!
But here’s a question: If these liberal democrats can do this, what
will they do with mail-in voting?
12.
I find it ironic and a bit humorous that the very first thing the
insurrectionist wanna-be tough guys who took over a six square block
segment of Seattle did was - wait for it - build a wall! Why did they
do that? (Don’t answer, I think I figured it out)
13.
I read earlier today that rioters in California tore down the statue of
Ulysses S. Grant, former President and General, who defeated the
Confederacy and wreaked havoc on the KKK in South Carolina. He was
vehemently opposed to slavery.
Wonder
what he did so wrong as to elicit the ire of the mob? Could it be that
the mob was not so concerned about Blacks but more concerned about
simply tearing down everything to do with America?
Makes
you really wonder about just what BLM and Antifa stand for, doesn’t it?
And who the hell oversees these well-orchestrated riots?
You
see, a mob has a leader, so who is the leader? George Soros? Barack
Hussein Obama and OFA? Someone is calling the shots to undermine our
way of life. I’d really like to know. Wouldn’t you? And how about
Robert Byrd who was a grand wizard in the KKK and a Democrat Senator
for 40 years- and nobody mentions that!
14.
Sometimes I find myself wondering why we are so obsessed with trying to
find intelligent life on other planets when we can’t seem to find
intelligent life right here on Mother Earth?
15.
Someone needs to explain to me why the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) reports 57,000 COVID-19 deaths, and the media reports over
120,000 deaths. Why the disparity?
Equally, I would like to know the distinction between those who died from COVID-19 and those who died with COVID-19.
Am I just not smart enough to understand these things?
But here is what I do understand and for which I need no explanation:
Americans live in the greatest country on planet earth, and I have been all over this world so I can make that statement.
We the People have the most excellent medical care in the world.
We the People earned more Nobel Prizes than any nation earth by a factor of ten.
We the People have pioneered the exploration of space and are innovators in technology.
We
the People have accumulated more wealth and prosperity than any other
country on the globe and have the highest standard of living known to
man.
We
the People have abolished slavery, prevailed in two World Wars, and
saved Europe twice in the 20th century. Instead of reaping the spoils
of war, we invested in rebuilding Europe and Japan in the aftermath of
the devastation of WWII. And we did all of this in 244 years as
compared to other nations whose histories go back millennia!
America
is a free country and, if you don’t like it here, you don’t need to
destroy other people’s property and businesses to satisfy your primal,
uncontrolled emotions, nor do you have to tear down our historical
monuments. You can pack up and leave.
I'm just guessing about this, but I bet if I looked carefully, I would not see any anchors on your ass keeping you here.
We
will be celebrating Independence Day, the Birthday of our Nation. It is
a golden opportunity to put aside personal differences and salute the
fact that we all wake up every day as free men and women thanks to
those who paid the ultimate price for that privilege.
Happy Birthday, America!

What is Love?
What Love means to 4-8 year old kids...
Slow down for three minutes to read this.
A group of professional people
posed this question
to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds ,
'What does love mean?'
The answers they got were broader, deeper,
and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined !
See what you think:
'When my grandmother
got arthritis , she couldn't bend over and paint
her toenails anymore.. So my
grandfather does it for her all the time , even
when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.'
Rebecca- age 8
'When someone loves you , the
way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name
is safe in their mouth.'
Billy - age 4
'Love is when a girl puts on perfume
and a boy puts on shaving cologne
and they go out and smell each other.'
Karl - age 5
'Love is when you go out to eat
and give somebody most of your French fries
without making them give you any of theirs.'
Chrissy - age 6
'Love is what makes you smile
when you're tired.'
Terri -age 4
'Love is when my
mommy makes coffee for my daddy and
she takes a sip before giving it to him , to
make sure the taste is OK.'
Danny - age 8
'Love is what's in the room with
you at Christmas if you stop opening presents
and just listen.'
Bobby - age 7
(Wow!)
'If you want to learn to love better ,
you should start with a friend who you hate. '
Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka's on
this planet)
'Love is when
you tell a guy you like his shirt,
then he wears it everyday.'
Noelle- age 7
'Love is like a little
old woman and a little old man who are still
friends even after they know each other so well.'
Tommy - age 6
'During my piano recital , I was
on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the
people watching me and saw my daddy waving and
smiling.
He was the only one doing that.
I wasn't scared anymore.'
Cindy - age 8
'My mommy loves me
more than anybody
You don't see anyone else
kissing me to sleep at night.'
Clare - age 6
'Love is when Mommy
gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'
Elaine-age 5
'Love is when Mommy
sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and
still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.'
Chris - age 7
'Love is when your puppy licks
your face even after you left him
alone all day.'
Mary Ann - age 4
'I know my older sister loves me
because she gives me all her old clothes
and has to go out and buy new ones.'
Lauren - age 4
'When you love somebody , your
eyelashes go up and down and little
stars come out of you.' (what an image)
Karen - age 7
'Love is when Mommy
sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think
it's gross..'
Mark - age 6
'You really shouldn't say
'I love you' unless you mean it.
But if you mean it,
you should say it a lot. People forget.'
Jessica - age 8
And the final one:
The winner was a four year old child
whose next door neighbor was an
elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry , the
little boy went into the old
gentleman's yard , climbed onto his
lap , and just sat there.
When his
Mother asked what he had said to the
neighbor , the little boy said ,
'Nothing , I just helped him cry'

AMERICA AND RUSSIA AND "BOUNTIES".
Here
are the facts, which we all should recall, and which hypocritical
Democrats and fellow-travelers choose to ignore while feeding their
"Trump Derangement Syndrome".
See: "Russia Denies Paying Bounties, But Some Say The U.S. Had it Coming", by Higgins and Kramer (in NTimes July 4, 2020).
The
reality is that America and Russia will continue to inhabit this Earth
as long as there is an Earth, generally as adversaries and competitors
and occasionally as allies when mutually advantageous. That reality
Requires interaction at all times, at some level. Those who deny that
are cynics or fools, or both. And then there is the Military-Industrial
Complex, alive and well.

THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG, ON MANY LEVELS.
And I certainly believe the Nurses over the Suits in this story.
To All Patients And Potential Patients...which means all of us:
the
delivery of Health Care at all levels had changed even before the
Pandemic. Any patient now needs to be a very active Advocate for him-or
herself...or needs to have an effective Advocate - who will rattle the
cage if necessary - to be heard and to be treated properly. Do not
defer to the "higher authority" when you suspect or Know that you are
not being properly considered.
This is not a conspiracy. It's just
the way it is now, for many inter-related reasons. But don't tolerate
it. Your health and life may be at risk.

A very special age group
Interesting
Facts:
Born in the 1930s to the mid-40s, we exist as a very special age group.
We are the smallest group of children born since the early 1900s.
We
are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can
remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war that rattled
the structure of our daily lives for years.
We are the last to remember ration books for everything from gas to sugar to shoes to stoves.
We saved tin foil and poured fat into tin cans.
We saw cars up on blocks because tires weren't available.
We can remember milk being delivered to our house early in the morning and placed in the “milk box” on the porch.
We are the last to see the gold stars in the front windows of our grieving neighbors whose sons died in the War.
We saw the 'boys' home from the war, build their little houses.
We are the last generation who spent childhood without television; instead, we imagined what we heard on the radio.
As we all like to brag, with no TV, we spent our childhood "playing outside”.
There was no little league.
There was no city playground for kids.
The
lack of television in our early years meant, for most of us, that we
had little real understanding of what the world was like.
On Saturday afternoons, the movies gave us newsreels sandwiched in between westerns and cartoons.
Telephones were one to a house, often shared (party lines) and hung on the wall in the kitchen (no cares about privacy).
Computers
were called calculators, they were hand cranked; typewriters were
driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the
ribbon
The 'INTERNET’ and ‘GOOGLE’ were words that did not exist.
Newspapers
and magazines were written for adults and the news was broadcast on our
radio in the evening by Gabriel Heatter and later Paul Harvey.
As we grew up, the country was exploding with growth.
The G.I. Bill gave returning veterans the means to get an education and spurred colleges to grow.
VA loans fanned a housing boom.
Pent up demand coupled with new installment payment plans opened many factories for work.
New highways would bring jobs and mobility.
The veterans joined civic clubs and became active in politics.
The radio network expanded from 3 stations to thousands.
Our
parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the
war, and they threw themselves into exploring opportunities they had
never imagined.
We weren't neglected, but we weren't today's all-consuming family focus.
They were glad we played by ourselves until the street lights came on.
They were busy discovering the post war world.
We
entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where we
were welcomed, enjoyed ourselves and felt secure in our future though
depression poverty was deeply remembered.
Polio was still a crippler.
We came of age in the 50s and 60s.
The
Korean War was a dark passage in the early 50s and by mid-decade
school children were ducking under desks for Air-Raid training.
Russia built the “Iron Curtain” and China became Red China ..
We
are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no
threats to our homeland. The war was over and the cold war,
terrorism, “global warming”, and perpetual economic insecurity
had yet to haunt life with unease.
Only
our generation can remember both a time of great war, and a time
when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty. lived
through both.
We grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better....
We are "The Last Ones". More than 99 % of us are either retired or deceased, and we feel privileged to have “lived in the best of times"!

That's the Italian word for "Enough"!
And
that's my decision, at least for now, regarding spoon-feeding my
readers with the many excellent articles and editorials that appear
regularly in the Wall Street Journal. Indeed, the WSJ has long
effectively taken the title "newspaper of record" from the
journalisticly abandoned New York Times.
So, if you want to leave the realm of the "great unwashed" and unknowing, Please Read The Wall Street Journal for yourself.
The
only exception I will make to providing articles in this section from
that source will be relating to the Covid -19 Pandemic, about which I
have been writing since early March. That is not only a political
hot-spot, unfortunately, but it is also in my field of medical
practice.
Thus, I offer now two articles on this subject:
1) "The Coronavirus Credibility Gap", by Joseph A. Ladapo ( in WSJ July 2, 2020, Opinion, pA17);
2) "An Old Vaccine May Help Against Covid", by Gallo and Arbess (in WSJ July 1, 2020, Opinioin, pA17).
Please. It won't hurt.
