campaign must maintain to be effective. But the mission will
always
be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",
supported
by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be
pro-active.

Columbus
Day has been a federal holiday since President Franklin D. Roosevelt
first proclaimed it such in 1934. One hundred years ago this month,
Colorado Sen. Casimo Barela’s bill was signed into law, designating
Oct. 12 of each year as a public holiday known as Columbus Day.
Roosevelt and Barela recognized the significant achievements of
Christopher Columbus, and rightly chose, with millions of other
Americans, to honor him.
Columbus possessed admirable qualities,
of which all Americans can be proud. Even by his detractors, he is seen
as a skilled sea captain of the highest order. He challenged the
conventional thought that the Earth was flat, seeking to “reach the
east by going west,” an idea to which the scientists of the day were
forcibly opposed. He challenged the Aristotelian philosophy of science
that had guided scientists for centuries in favor of the newer
philosophy of science that placed observation in a primary role of
analysis. He supported the heliocentric concept of the solar system
with Galileo, Copernicus and Kepler before it became known by that
name. In capitalistic spirit (admirable in the eyes of most Americans),
he sought glory, wealth and a title of nobility by opening new trade
routes to China and Japan.
Most importantly, though, Columbus
discovered the American continental coast and recorded the voyage in a
way that enabled others to repeat the feat. The real achievement worthy
of holidays, monuments and namesake cities is that he opened a route
that could be sailed again by himself and others. It is Columbus’
method of discovery and record-keeping that distinguishes him from
other explorers who may previously have “discovered” the New World. He
opened the door to further discovery by explorers like Magellan, Cooke,
Drake and Hudson. His discovery led to the creation of the greatest
nation on Earth, the United States of America.
Today, Columbus
is a scapegoat for perceived European sins intentionally committed in
the Americas by non-Native Americans over the past 500 years. Those who
oppose Columbus Day blame Columbus – and only Columbus – for acts of
genocide, the continued suffering of indigenous people, the slave trade
in the entire Western hemisphere, the United States governmental policy
of Manifest Destiny, and the erosion of rights of indigenous peoples
throughout the Americas. To blame Columbus for any of these, though, is
to exonerate the policies, groups and individuals who practiced slavery
and committed heinous crimes against humanity, including the French,
English, U.S. and Spanish governments, Thomas Jefferson and other
founding fathers, the Confederate States of America, the Ku Klux Klan,
and the U.S. military officers who massacred Native Americans at places
like Sand Creek. Place blame on those who deserve it, not on
Christopher Columbus.
Contrary to the expressed opinions of
those who oppose Columbus Day, Columbus did not introduce slavery to
the Americas. Slave trading was a major part of the economy of the Ute
Native American tribes, according to Colorado historian Virginia
McConnell Simmons in her book “The Ute Indians of Utah, Colorado, and
New Mexico.” Captives from battle were sold into slavery in places like
Taos for horses and hides. Slavery was a universal institution in the
world, lacking opposition until the mid-16th and early 17th centuries.
St. Thomas Aquinas considered it a “product of original sin.” The
Catholic Church and other churches, including the Eastern Church and
the Reformation churches, disapproved, but sought only to mitigate its
excesses. Slavery already existed in the Americas, especially in
Central America, at the time of Columbus’ arrival; Cortez provided
ample descriptions of what he found in the Mexico City of the Aztecs.
Even
where Columbus first landed in what is now known as the “West Indies,”
tribes practiced slavery and cannibalism. The Arawaks originally came
from Venezuela and seized many islands during the 1st century AD,
pushing other tribes back to the hinterlands. Some of the Arawak
tribes, “discovered” by Columbus, practiced cannibalism. Between 1000
and 1500, the Carib tribes from the Guianas and Venezuela seized some
islands from the Arawaks. The Arawaks were by that time a peaceful
people, involved in agriculture and pottery, with a relatively
elaborate social structure headed by hereditary chieftains. The Carib
had a less elaborate social structure, and their society lives centered
around warfare, including cannibalism. When they conquered the lesser
Antilles, they killed the Arawak men, married their women, and adopted
the Arawak language.
Christopher Columbus is a man worthy of the
honors and accolades bestowed upon him. Instead of looking back 500
years and judging a man who lived before the military use of gunpowder
by today’s mores, those who oppose Columbus Day should celebrate his
discovery and be thankful they live in this great country.

(www.yahoo.com/news, June 24, 2020). Mr. Goldberg made one mistake: he
quoted President Trump extensively and verbatim describing the facts
facing this nation now.
Remember this in November.
4) "On transgender athletes: The law cannot stand still",
by Mike DiMauro (in The Day, June 24, 2020). You could have saved a lot
of ink by simply quoting Winston Churchill: "Neva give in. Neva give
in. Neva. Neva. Neva...."
5) See: "Who Wants To Be A Cop?" and also "What The Data Say About Police", both in WSJ June 23, 2020.
The
laws relating to police and police actions need review and some
revision. But see the actions of Nancy Pellosi and her Democratic
pupils in blocking even any discussion of reasonable legislation.
That's who and what they are.
6) The ignorance, stupidity (two
different things) and irresponsibility of those trying feebly to erase
American history "takes my breath away". But not for long.

JOHN BOLTON...AND THE REST OF US.
If you missed the excellent long interview by Bret Baier with John Bolton on Tuesday evening, you should look it up.
Bolton
is a Washington advisor whom I have followed and admired for decades as
the fabled "big stick" of Theodore Roosevelt's classic foreign policy
approach: "SPEAK SOFTLY, AND CARRY A BIG STICK".
But Bolton's recurring replies to Baier's incisive questions make several things clear:
1) Bolton has always been uncomfortable as an "advisor" and not as the decision-maker;
2)
Bolton has only one arrow in his quiver: a big stick. He sees no role
for speaking softly - or for speaking at all. He obviously could not
stand President Trump's efforts at using his strong suit, speaking and
trying to negotiate with many foreign leaders - especially with
adversaries - while carrying the big stick of American military
prowess.
3) In incomprehensible and recurring assertions, Bolton
attributes all of Trump's efforts with other leaders as having only one
goal: his self-interest and his re-election. Forget "Make America Great
Again"; only Make Trump Great Again.
Here is the unfortunate
decline and fall of an erstwhile good public servant overcome by his
own hubris and his own limitations...with a portion of envy thrown in.
Too Bad.
Meanwhile, President Trump brings to the office life-long
successful experience with negotiations: "Let Us Reason Together...And
If Not, Let Us Fight", all for the sake of a Great America.
This I believe; and this I believe that most Americans believe and will document with their votes on November 3.

THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN AMERICA. WHERE DO I STAND NOW?
1) The pandemic is not over, and may not be "over" for many months.
2)
We know a great deal more about how to deal with it than we did in
March or April. That includes the belated "discovery" of the importance
of attacking the patient's Inflammatory system reaction run amok with
"dexamethasone" and other adrenocorticosteroids - a point which I was
making since early March and which was ignored by the "experts" for
many weeks, to their patients' detriment.
3) There are two patients
in this national challenge: the patient in the bed; and the person at
home trying to figure how to feed his family. Both are equally
important and must be helped equally.
4) A new "Lock-Down" would be
irresponsible. Also irresponsible are the actions of people, often
young air-heads, who avoid social distancing and masks when in public.
Such common sense actions should be required, under pain of appropriate
penalties.
5) We are all soldiers in this War. We all have our roles to play, without panic and without Stupidity.

AMERICA: CHALLENGED FROM NEAR AND FAR.
The
last three years have witnessed treachery from individuals and groups
within and without the Federal government in their failed effort to
create an Impeachment out of nothing true.
A Pandemic was visited upon us by the negligence and/or intent of a malign foreign power.
This
Pandemic is now in the process of being weaponized by the Democratic
Left and their media servants with misinformation and and dire but
unfounded forecasts.
Most recently, irresponsible actions by a few
individuals have produced big city unrest and violence by a combination
of clue-less young people and highly motivated racists from the Black
community. Two articles address further the bases for these situations.
1) "Failure In The Virtual Classroom" (WSJ Editorial, June 22, 2020); and
2) "The Power Of Personal Agency",
by Ian Rowe (ibid, Opinion, pA15). This second article should be read
by every Black parent and child with any regard for his or her future.
Black Racism will get you nothing but a reversal of fortunes achieved

Enough

In the 1950's, after Brown v. Board of Education
and the following racial unrest for years, I would have ended up in a
shallow grave in Mississippi had I not been tired out of my mind trying
to get through Medical School and Internship. And since then I have
cared for thousands of Black families throughout the last 63 years of
medical practice - and counting...some of them involving three
generations. These are solid, good people - friends. And the vast
majority of my "White crackers" live with these people regularly and
appreciate them.

be honest, despite the fact that blacks are no different whatsoever
from any other race psychologically or intellectually, their historic
cultural communal behavior allows them to end up on the losing end a
lot.
Just
as an independent-minded culture such as the West always seems to
overcome vastly superior numbers in the East, black culture in America
is so dominated by one narrative that it leaves the entire group
susceptible to the same political, economic, and cultural infection
from which they continue to suffer, often by their own hand.

wing of its activist base. They have no more “moderates” in the party,

Now
they have trained their eyes on the only thing that stands against them

If they capture Arizona, they will have a clear path to taking the
Senate. Martha is being outraised by her far left opponent and needs

Democrats
believe their first step to destroying our Senate Majority is by
flipping Arizona. They’re right. Martha is standing between liberal
Democrats and their dangerous agenda.
Martha
is a steadfast conservative who is a top ally of the President – she is
even part of his task force to reopen the economy. That’s why the Angry
Left is coming after her. We can’t let them get rid of one of the

For
a small amount of perspective for snowflakes during these crazy times,
imagine you were an American born in 1900. When you are 14, World War I
starts, and ends on your 18th birthday with 22 million people killed.
Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs
until you are 20. Fifty million people die from it in those two years.
Yes, 50 million.
When
you're 29, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, global
GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. And there was no welfare,
food stamps or bailout money. You were mostly on your own. The country
nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World
War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet.
When
you're 41, the United States is fully pulled into WWII. Between your
39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war and the
Holocaust kills six million. At 52, the Korean War starts and five
million perish.
At
64 the Vietnam War begins, and it doesn’t end for many years. Four
million people die in that conflict. Approaching your 62nd birthday you
have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on
our planet, as we know it, could well have ended. Great leaders
prevented that from happening.
As
you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Think of everyone on the
planet born in 1900. How do you survive all of that? A kid in 1985
didn’t think their 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school
was. Yet those grandparents (and now great grandparents) survived
through everything listed above.
Perspective
is an amazing art. Let’s try and keep things in perspective. Let’s be
smart, help each other out, and we will get through all of this. In the
history of the world, there has never been a storm that lasted. This
too, shall pass.

protest and celebration of life march for G. F. in Bristol, RI. July
4th 10AM. Follow the red, white and blue painted road stripe to the
end. High School and college marching bands, antique cars, Shriners and
Mummer bands, Fife and drum corps, fire trucks, police groups, military
bands and auxiliaries, etc., etc., etc. are all welcome.)
The
government told you that you had to stay home and close your business
... but looters were allowed free access to destroy and steal from your
business.
The
government told you that your sacred religious beliefs couldn't be
practiced in a church due to the virus ... but rioters were able to
arson and destroy those churches and artifacts at will.
The
government wants you to report any strong police enforcement of the law
... the government doesn't want you to report or identify anarchists or
looters that are destroying the community.
The
government released thousands of violent criminal offenders because the
prisons were unsafe due to the virus ... these jail spots are needed to
house anyone that doesn't follow their virus shutdown demands.
The
government wants you to wait two ... three ... four months ... to
collect partial unemployment. Not one government official has been laid
off or received a pay cut. There is plenty of your money to pay them.
The
media wants you to believe these are all peaceful protests. The video
shows that multiple police and citizens, of all races, have been
murdered by the protests. Rioters are throwing Molotov cocktails at the
faces of the Secret Service ... police officers are being ambushed and
shot ... law abiding citizens are being killed trying to do the job law
enforcement has been told by weak leaders not to do.
The sick and the aged are dying lonely in hospitals and nursing homes ... and their loved ones are not even allowed to visit.
Anarchists
are calling for the destruction of America and removal of all law
enforcement ... the Mayor of Los Angeles just called for $150 million
reduction in the police budget.
Protesters
taking selfie's to show how "woke" they are on Instagram are destroying
mostly poor neighborhoods ... where local African Americans won't now
have a grocery store to go to ... a bank to go to ... public
transportation to utilize, etc.
Less
than a week after Memorial Day, countless memorials to our soldiers,
Founding Fathers, and safety forces killed in the line of duty have
been destroyed. Our history is being erased and rewritten under the
guise of political correctness.
Members
of law enforcement and our elected leaders are kneeling before the very
people that are destroying our Country ... in some sick, perverted
gesture... to acknowledge they have completely abdicated their civic
responsibilities. Rest assured, the "demands" of the protesters change
daily and kneeling before them will only embolden more extremism.
Our
pandering corporations are tripping over themselves to show their
support of the "cause" with memes, Facebook posts and tweets ... the
same shoe companies that sell $200 tennis shoes in the hood that often
lead to robberies and shootings ... the same banks that charge minority
communities 28% credit card interest ... the same companies that
outsource their jobs to China for a cheap wage while our communities in
America starve.
LeBron
and Kapernick think you are a racist and support the riots ... from
their 10,000 square foot gated and protected mansions.
Karen
from Brecksville OH and Kyle from Westlake OH spend their days on
Facebook telling everyone they are a racist ... often attacking them
online ... yet they have never mentored an inner city student, been a
Big Brother or Big Sister, worked at an inner city youth or sports
program, etc.
Mentally
ill Hollywood celebrities have raised $20 million to post bail for
rioters and looters ... they haven't raised a nickel for law abiding
citizens that have lost everything through no fault of their own. Shop
owners of every race and religion have seen their lifetime of work
destroyed overnight.
The
dangerous, corrupt media glorifies all of this ... fuels the fire ...
demonizes anyone that highlights these tragic facts ... all while
making millions off the coverage. They LOVE this destruction because
every night, scared Americans are turning in to make sure there is not
a mob coming to their town.
The
list goes on and on ... and it needs to stop. And yes, this is all
being done as a distraction - the Democratic Party has run out of
gimmicks ... strippers, porn stars, Russia, the Ukraine, Kavanagh,
Impeachment, COVID-19 ... none of it worked. They have to play the only
card they have left ... the race card. They are literally willing to
destroy America so there is racial division and hatred - that they
think will help elect their candidates. It is sick ... it is perverse
... and if you ever think about voting for any Democrat ever again, you
are a disgrace to your Country.
There
are 40 million Americans out of work ... thousands and thousands of
businesses were just destroyed in the last week and will never reopen
... Anarchists are running cities and dictating policy ... all while
China is meticulously planning and facilitating our destruction.
Imagine
you were a soldier that died at 18 invading Omaha Beach ... imagine you
were a prisoner of War in Vietnam, tortured daily, for seven years ...
imagine you were the retired St. Louis Police Captain ... that served
your inner city community for over 40 years ... only to be shot dead

PEARL HARBOR AND GOD
What God did at Pearl Harbor that day is interesting and I never knew this little bit of history:
Tour boats ferry people out to the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii every thirty minutes
We just missed a ferry and had to wait thirty minutes. I went into a small gift shop to kill time In
the gift shop, I purchased a small book entitled, "Reflections on Pearl Harbor" by Admiral Chester Nimitz.
Sunday, December 7th, 1941--Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington, DC.
He
was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered the
phone, it was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the phone.
He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet
Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941.
There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat--you would have thought the Japanese had already won the war.
On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought
on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.
Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters everywhere you looked.
As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, "Well Admiral,
what do you think after seeing all this destruction?
Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice.
Admiral Nimitz said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force
could ever make, or God was taking care of America.
Which do you think it was?
Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying the Japanese
made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?"
Nimitz explained
Mistake number one:
The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships
were ashore on leave.
If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk--we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800.
Mistake number two:
When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away
sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships.
If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to America to be repaired
As
it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be raised. One tug
can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and
at sea by the time we could have towed them to America.
And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships
Mistake number three:
Every
drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground
storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could
have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply.
That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or God was taking care of America
I've never forgotten what I read in that little book. It is still an inspiration as I reflect upon it.
In
jest, I might suggest that because Admiral Nimitz was a Texan, born and
raised in Fredericksburg, Texas -- he was a born optimist.
But
any way you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining
in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair
and defeatism.
President
Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately
needed a leader that could see silver linings in the midst of the
clouds of dejection, despair and defeat.
There is a reason that our national motto is, IN GOD WE TRUST
Why have we forgotten?

AS IS SO OFTEN THE CASE,
the Saturday edition of the WSJ provides much food for thought.
I find two offerings in the June 13, 2020 edition particularly relevant to what is going on in this country right now.
1)
Although not caused by any imminent danger of illness and death from
the COVID-19 virus, there are two areas of short-term and long-term
danger from the pandemic facing this nation right now:
a) a possible
further weakening or even collapse of the economy directly affecting
the average citizen; and b) the conduct and the result of the November
election.
The Federal government is taking steps to avoid a collapse, steps for which we will be paying dearly for decades.
What is not actively being prepared for is an efficient and fair election.

by Nathaniel Persily (in WSJ June 13, 2020, Review, pC1). If the
November election results are not perceived and received by the people
as demonstrably fair, we will have rioting from all sides of the
political spectrum that will make the current unrest look like a Sunday
School outing by contrast.
That brings up the possible actual
results of the November elections. Donald Trump has been a steady hand
at the wheel, following a course that he clearly described before
election, and despite Democratic - supplied severe weather and
attempted mutiny.
Joe Biden cannot be expected to provide that
steady hand, succumbing to his mutiny from the Left immediately after
an electoral win...if not before. That would recall events that took
place in Germany in late 1932 - and on January 30, 1933: the takeover
by Adolph Hitler.

If
the latter happens, I predict a revolution. Americans are not the

The Electoral College. You want chaos or worse? Just try allowing
Electors to ignore the electoral results in their State and to vote as
they wish.
3) Joe Biden has won enough primary votes to be the
presumptive Democratic nominee. GOOD. This man, who clearly acts older
than stated age and who evidently has at least a fetish for touching
girls and women, will be a benefit to President Trump's re-election.
4) THE RULE OF LAW, in three circumstances.
a)
at the Federal level, pay attention to the planned committee activities
of Senator Lindsey Graham (if he actually follows through...);
b) the pending reports of John Durham;
c)
to members of at least one generation of young Black men: stay within
the Law - and RESPECT AND OBEY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT UNIFORM WHEN
ENGAGED!

may be. At least two forms of Legislation need to be reconciled:
The Insurrection Act of 1807; and the Posse Comitatus Act. It should be resolved by our Courts - as a "Case or Controversy".

Likewise, the abuse and even abandonment by many in the "mainstream
media" of foundational rules of unbiased Journalism needs to be
addressed - with specific relation to their historic protections under
the First Amendment. Those historic protections may no longer be
applicable to some of those media. A recent statement by Journalist
Lara Logan regarding "Pro-Antifa Propaganda" in the N.Y.Times is
directly on point.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION / FACTS ARE REALLY IMPORTANT.
1) "GOOD POLICING SAVES BLACK LIVES", by Jason L. Riley (in WSJ June 2, 2020, Opinion, pA17).
Herein are Facts, Data, Details and Conclusions that are non-controvertable.
Of
course, that will not stop the 20 and 30 year old juveniles, still
living with their parents and just out for a jaunt..aka "protesting".
It
will not stop the extensive criminal element, ordinarily responsible
for the continuing epidemic of murders in our major cities, simply
taking advantage of an opportunity to steal and destroy without
consequence.
It will not stop Antifa and other terrorists bent on overthrowing legitimate government by violent means.
And
it certainly will not stop the bald-faced liars in that government and
in the totally compromised "mainstream press" from making hay while the
cities burn. The facility with which these liars lie is amazing. We've
watched it during the last three years of "impeachment"; and we are
watching it now. It strongly suggests an epidemic of Sociopathy in our
midst - and in "leadership" positions!.
REMEMBER ALL OF THIS IN NOVEMBER!
2) "NURSING HOMES, COVID AND MEDICAID", by Moses and Blase ( ibid.)
"A
national tragedy began in March when Covid-19 killed 35 residents of
the Life Care Center in Kirkland, Wash. Since then, more than 22,000
nursing-home residents have died in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New
Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Nearly half of all Americans who
have fallen victim to the novel coronavirus lived in nursing homes."
Let
that sink in. These were our parents, grandparents, other family
members, good friends - and just plain folk who did not deserve this.
There
are specific reasons for this disaster, other than the virus, which
could have been addressed in the past and which must be addressed now.
Or are we ready to join Josef Stalin in his comment: "One death is a
tragedy; 20,000 deaths is a statistic".
REMEMBER ALL OF THIS IN NOVEMBER!

"LIKE TRYING TO DRINK WATER FROM A FIRE HOSE".
That's
an apt comparison for those of us trying to sift facts from the
falsehoods and selective reporting in the mainstream press.
But we
are trying, you and I...and especially those of you who disagree with
some of the positions and opinions I present here. For that, I thank
you.
