quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in
this rapid-fire world of ours. Of course, as in military
campaigns,
a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed
by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction. Charge that
to
"the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or
military
campaign must maintain to be effective. But the mission will
always
be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",
supported
by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be
pro-active.
That's all I promise.

MORE FACTS: PRESENTING "AMERICA'S MAYOR", AND NOW THE PRESIDENT'S LAWYER, RUDY GIULIANI. A fearless man of the people and a highly experienced and articulate student of the Law. President Trump is finally ethically and well-represented.
"WOULDN'T IT BE LOVERLY..." Two recent news articles should begin with that thought, with or without music. 1) "Resigned to Endless War",
by Michael O'Hanlon (WSJ July 28-29, 2018, Review, pC4). Referring to
four decades of struggle against Islamic extremism in the Middle East,
the author - and now our leaders - have it right. A permanent American
position in that perpetual cauldron must be our response to the
Fundamentalist Islamic Jihad against us. They can call it off...or they
can suffer and die. 2) "Geneva Conventions For The Culture War",
by Senator Orrin Hatch (WSJ July 28-29,2018, Opinion, pA13). "America's
culture war has reached a tipping point". Right. "It is an attempt to
burn away the last vestiges of civility and common cause along the
march to political domination". Partially Right. The Leftists seek
totalitarian control of the nation...politically, culturally and if
necessary by force. America has long been at risk of such domination
from the Left...never from the Right. We are fortunate to have two
coming elections in which to fight this out, rather than in the
streets. No hyperbole here. Yes, it would be "loverly"...except for Reality.

Senator McConnell on the idiotic - and hilarious - pronouncements of Democrats regarding USSC Justice Nominee Kavanaugh.
ON THE FALL OF AMERICAN EDUCATION, AND ITS CONSEQUENCES. This
is certainly not a new area of commentary for me. And a concentration
of related articles and opinions can be found in the website section
entitled "PUBLIC EDUCATION POLITICS". The problem begins with a
baby's health or lack thereof in utero, thanks in part to the mother's
sense of responsibility. It develops with a supportive father and
mother, or lack thereof. It accelerates during progress, or lack
thereof, in grammar and high school, where for decades "educators" have
been the only people dealing with people who are allowed to do raw
research on those people. The results are reflected in declining
learning criteria, standards and test scores, "social" promotion and
even graduation, failure to develop self-discipline and personal
responsibility, a fine working knowledge of sexual promiscuity and of
illicit drugs, "liberal colleges" that reinforce such self-defeating
trends, and a narcissism that produces 40 year old juveniles. Two recent articles are on point. I agree entirely with the first, by Cal Thomas: "The 'Spoiled Rotten' Generation is Foolish In Welcoming Socialism" (in The Day July 28, 2018, Opinion, pA6) . I
have some reservations about the second, specifically about "intent",
seeing instead a decline in the intellectual ability of "educators" and
their total unwillingness to self-assess. See: "America's Insidious Education System Intentionally Fails Children", by Bruce Deitrick Price, www.lifesitenews.com/opinion, July 27, 2018. If the future of America is Decline, this will have been the main reason. "Is anybody there? Does anybody care?"

IN THIS ALPHABET SOUP OF MULTIMEDIA FAKE NEWS OUTLETS, whom do we dare to believe? Even
Fox News, the best of them, is not always reliable...at times focusing
on the opinions de jour of a few of their more liberal commentators.
And here, I do use the word "liberal" pejoratively...since in the
current fight for the soul of the Democratic Party "liberals" are
becoming more and more "Leftist" - NOT a good thing. So, in our
quest for reliable News, it is a breath of fresh air to find a great
article in the July 28-29, 2018 edition of the WSJ, Opinion, pA11: "Washington's Public Enemy No.1: The Weekend Interview With Devin Nunes", by Kimberly Strassel. "You want the Truth?" etc. Here it is. And Devin Nunes is a truth-teller among jackals.

"HOW TO THINK ABOUT VLADIMIR PUTIN", by Christopher Caldwell (in Imprimis - a publication of Hillsdale College, Volume 46, Number 3, March 2017). This
is an Excellent article that should be required reading to enable our
understanding of a nation and of a People that have been at the center
of world history during the last 150 years. As an unabashed
underliner, I underlined nearly every sentence and read it twice.
Having missed it when it was first published, it is entirely consistent
with my recent opinions on Putin and Russia in this section - offered
without knowledge of its contents. Executive Summary. The facts
are entirely in keeping with the posture of President Trump and of
those who see engagement as critical to world peace. And it is a
complete rebuttal to the fevered opinions of Senator McCain and the
others too blind or ignorant to know those facts and their implications
for America and for the world. A VERY IMPORTANT READ!

fact, my wife and I had a related experience years ago when we visited
Omaha, Nebraska for the graduation of our son from the Creighton Law
School. Expecting nothing unusual, we were both immediately and
independently struck by the friendliness of the people everywhere.
Heartwarming then; and especially reassuring now.

"COLLEGES SHOULD REFLECT NATION'S DIVERSITY", (in The Day July 22, 2018, Editorial). "Campuses
should be demographic microcosms of the country as a whole; places
where young people with a broad base of ideas, world views,
backgrounds, heritages and experiences come together to learn and be
enriched". EXACTLY. And not to be indoctrinated into one
world-view, at risk of being demeaned, shunned and attacked, which is
the situation on too many college campuses today - as documented
broadly and in this section. Nor is the "microcosm" to be diced and
sliced into isolated categories of skin color and national origin. That
is simply Racism. "Diversity is at the very essence of the American way of life". That
diversity has historically been a melting-pot, not a series of armed
camps. Let's work for that, physically, educationally and morally.

HERE'S A SUBJECT THAT'S TOO IMPORTANT TO BE "POLITICAL". "Judicial Theater: What We Learn From Confirmation Hearings", (in WSJ Review, July 14-15, 2018, pC1). Here
is an excellent and in-depth exposition on how the U.S. Senate's
conduct of its obligation to "advise and consent" with regard to
nominations for the U.S.Supreme Court over many decades has informed
our understanding of the nominees as well as of our lives under the
U.S. Constitution. After all the "Sturm und Drang", the Hearings very
often revealed a judicial approach to serious issues that the confirmed
Justices actually applied during their subsequent decades on the Bench.
Fascinating and very important. So: pay attention. And let's hope
that the coming Hearings are much more than "...a tale as told by an
idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".
Folks, I viewed last evening another Fine documentary: "1941: Man of Steel", referring to Stalin (aka "Man of Steel")". Very
informative. If Stalin had failed to defeat Hitler at the gates of
Moscow in 1941 and again in the Caucuses in 1942, with vast loss of
Russian lives, instead of Russian defeats which almost happened, Hitler
would then have invaded and defeated Britain - and the Allies would
have had to sue for peace...or would have used the atom bomb (or had it
used on us by Germany) long before 1945. Two points: 1) We owe the Russian people a debt of gratitude, despite their evil leadership; and 2)
Russia and especially the Russian People could / would be a very
formidable foe when aroused. Another reason to negotiate and find areas
of common interest and cooperation, out of our own self-interest. Those
who preach perpetual conflict with Russia are wrong and are dangerous.

TRUMP IS ALREADY DESTROYING ARIZONA'S ECONOMY
TRUMP
is destroying the local AZ economies. Illegal immigrants are boycotting
Arizona by the thousands. They are showing their outrage with Donald
Trump's pardon of sheriff Joe Arpaio and his rescinding of
Obama's unconstitutional executive order known as DACA.
In the
small town of Guadalupe, AZ, south of Phoenix, Manuel Renaldo is one of
those who are vowing to punish Arizona by leaving. As he loaded
his stolen car with his taxpayer-furnished belongings and family of
ten, Renaldo told this reporter through an interpreter: "It's a matter
of principle; I refuse to be supported by a state that treats me like a
criminal!"
The effects of the exodus are already being felt by
some Arizona retailers, who are reporting dwindling thefts & sales
of beer, tequila, spray paint, and ammunition. Also hit hard are the
state hospitals, which have reporte a dramatic decline in births and
emergency room visits of non-revenue patients!
State welfare
agencies are preparing to lay off staffs that distribute food stamps
and unemployment benefits. Tattoo parlors are in an absolute state of
panic!
Renaldo told a reporter, through an interpreter, that he
and his family are moving to the sanctuary state of California, with
a Liberal government under Democrats, and Governor Jerry Brown,
new higher taxes and hardworking people who will better able to support
him and his growing family with dignity!

fact, My father's youngest brother Guido escaped from a Russian prison
camp in Poland (formerly German), spent two years walking back to his
home in Italy, and arrived there weighing 80 lbs. He spent the next 40

THIS IS REALLY NOT SURPRISING. President Trump was kind when he called his adversaries "fools". It's much more serious than that: Trump Derangement Syndrome.
"TRUE, TRUE AND RELATED". You
don't have to be a late-night clown, only a Leftist or a Rino, to
display a virulent case of "Trump Derangement Syndrome" - and to
strengthen the commitment of Trump supporters for a cure at the ballot
box.
THE RUSSIA SUMMIT MEETING: THIRD POST-SCRIPT. After
having read the entire Transcript of the Press Conference, beginning
with statements by Putin and then by Trump, followed by the Q&A,
but before the coming testimony of Sec. Pompeo, it is clear that a
great deal more was discussed in the two hour private meeting and then
the two hour staff meeting with the Presidents.
Putin: "...frank and business-like atmosphere". "...a whole new set of challenges...this negative situation in the bilateral relationship." "...the agenda of non-placement of weapons in space". "...cooperation in counterterrorism and maintaining cybersecurity." "...regional crisis, for instance Syria...separation of forces of Israel and Syria". "We
are glad that the Korean Peninsula issue is starting to
resolve...thanks to the personal engagement of President Trump." "...the internal UIkrainian crisis..." "...attention to economic ties and economic coopertion." "...the
Russian State has never interfered and is not going to interfere into
internal American affairs, including election process." "...As to
who is to be believed and to who's not to be believed, you can trust no
one if you take this. Where did you get this idea that President Trump
trusts me or I trust him. He defends the interests of the United States
of America, and I do defend the interests of the Russian Federation."
Trump. "We had direct, open, deeply productive dialogue". "...diplomacy and engagement is preferable to conflict and hostility". "Our expectations are grounded in realism..." "Well, actually I called him a competitor. And a good competitor he is. And I think the word "competitor " is a compliment".
There
was much more of substance from both. But then President Trump allowed
himself to be drawn into the anti-Trump morass that he has faced since
before his Presidency...and drawn in with animus. That was a mistake,
however understandable.
My opinion, so far: 1) President Trump values discussion and negotiation. So do I. 2)
There are some people and many "leaders" in America who much prefer
perpetual conflict with Russia, our most dangerous adversary. 3)
Putin is evil, wily and also egotistical (witness his album of
cheese-cake photos of himself). I believe that Trump found out quickly
during their private meeting that...had he essentially or actually
called Putin a liar...Putin would have either left the meeting or would
have refused to discuss any of the other substantive issues before
them. As President Trump said (to paraphrase): "I will not let politics
get in the way of my defending the American People". And defend he did
- by establishing a workable relationship with this very capable and
dangerous adversary. Meanwhile, his enemies on the Left and on the Right continue their outrageous attacks. Make
no mistake: this is War. And America is fortunate that we have the fora
of elections in 2018 and in 2020 in which to channel this War.

THE RUSSIA SUMMIT MEETING: FIRST POST-SCRIPT. Many
politicians in this country are vested in perpetual conflict with
Russia for all sorts of reasons, from self-interest to legitimizing
their own past errors in this arena. President Trump said it clearly
when he said that he would not let political considerations interfere
with keeping America safe - by engaging with our most dangerous
adversary. I have always been for direct engagement. But that
engagement on many important topics might not have gotten anywhere if
Trump had insisted that Putin was a liar. All the anti-Trump hypocrites and crazies will do their thing. But the People know better.

THE RUSSIA SUMMIT MEETING: SECOND POST-SCRIPT.
WHAT A CONCEPT: Instead
of submitting to the incessant and hysterical diatribes coming from all
sides against President Trump, how about looking for direct quotes from
both Trump and Putin: what did they literally say? I tried to
find out by reviewing the Tuesday, July 17 publications of the
following newspapers: The Hartford Courant; The Day; The NYTimes; The
WSJ; and USAToday. Amid the tens of thousands of paraphrases, opinions
and analyses, I could find very few direct quotes...and nearly all of
which had been carefully cherry-picked to support those opinions. What to do? I down-loaded the actual transcript of the Summit Press Conference, linked below. I
will read that primary source material (What a Journalistic Concept);
and only then will I report my opinions and analyses in further
"Post-Scripts". Meanwhile, try to find and view the interview by
Tucker Carlson of the President, on Fox News on Tuesday evening, July
17. Also primary source material. WHAT A CONCEPT.
THE PRESIDENTS TRUMP AND PUTIN SUMMIT MEETING. This
morning I watched developments and coverage on Fox News beginning at
4:30 AM and until they had both arrived for the initial one-on-one
meeting at 7 AM. The Fox coverage was informed and informative, with questions and speculations - but without answers. By
contrast, The NYTimes edition today, both domestic and interntional,
announced that "Putin had already won" simply by virtue of there being
a meeting. That "Grey Lady" is not only grey; she has become demented. As
one Fox journalist noted, one of the first things you learn in
Journalism School is not to write the story before you have gone out
and covered it.
A SHOT OF WHISKEY In
the old west a .45 cartridge for a six-gun cost 12 cents, so did a
glass of whiskey. If a cowhand was low on cash he would often give the
bartender a cartridge in exchange for a drink. This became known as a
"shot" of whiskey.
THE WHOLE NINE YARDS American
fighter planes in WW2 had machine guns that were Fed by a belt of
cartridges. The average plane held belts that were 27 feet (9 yards)
long. If the pilot used up all his ammo he was said to have given it
the whole nine yards.
BUYING THE FARM During WW1
soldiers were given life insurance policies worth $5,000. This was
about the price of an average farm so if You died you "bought the farm"
for your survivors.
IRON CLAD CONTRACT This came about from the ironclad ships of the Civil War. It meant something so strong it could not be broken.
PASSING THE BUCK / THE BUCK STOPS HERE Most
men in the early west carried a jack knife made by the Buck knife
company. When playing poker it was common to place one of these Buck
knives in front of the dealer so that everyone knew who he was. When it
was time for a new dealer the deck of cards and the Knife were given to
the new dealer. If this person didn't want to deal he would "pass the
buck" to the next player. If that player accepted then "the buck
stopped there".
RIFF RAFF The Mississippi River was
the main way of traveling from north to south. Riverboats carried
passengers and freight but they were expensive so most people used
rafts. Everything had the right of way over rafts which were considered
cheap. The steering oar on the rafts was called a "riff" and this
transposed into riff-raff, meaning low class.
COBWEB The Old English word for "spider" was "cob".
SHIP STATE ROOMS Traveling
by steamboat was considered the height of comfort. Passenger cabins on
the boats were not numbered. Instead they were named after states. To
this day cabins on ships are called staterooms.
SLEEP TIGHT Early
beds were made with a wooden frame. Ropes were tied across the frame in
a criss-cross pattern. A Straw mattress was then put on top of the
ropes. Over time the ropes stretched, causing the bed to sag. The owner
would then tighten the ropes to get a better night's sleep.
SHOWBOAT These
were floating theaters built on a barge that was pushed by a steamboat.
These played small towns along the Mississippi River. Unlike the boat
shown in the movie "Showboat" These did not have an engine. They were
gaudy and attention grabbing which is why we say someone who is being
the life of the party is showboating".
OVER A BARREL In
the days before CPR a drowning victim would be placed Face down over a
barrel and the barrel would be rolled back and forth in a effort to
empty the lungs of water. It was rarely effective. If you are over a
barrel you are in deep trouble.
BARGE IN Heavy
freight was moved along the Mississippi in large barges pushed by
steamboats. These were hard to control and would sometimes swing into
piers or other boats. People would say they "barged in".
HOGWASH Steamboats
carried both people and animals. Since pigs smelled so bad they would
be washed before being put on board. The mud and other filth that was
washed off was considered useless "hog wash".
CURFEW The
word "curfew" comes from the French phrase "couvre-feu", which means
"cover the fire". It was used to describe the time of blowing out all
lamps and candles. It was later adopted into Middle English as
"curfeu", which later became the modern "curfew". In the early American
colonies homes had no real fireplaces so a fire was built in the center
of the room. In order to make sure a fire did not get out of control
during the night it was required that, by an agreed upon time, all
fires would be covered with a clay pot called-a "curfew".
BARRELS OF OIL When
the first oil wells were drilled they had made no Provision for storing
the liquid so they used water barrels. That is why, to this day, we
speak of barrels of oil rather than gallons.
HOT OFF THE PRESS As
the paper goes through the rotary printing press friction causes it to
heat up. Therefore, if you grab the paper right off the press It is
hot. The expression means to get immediate Information.

WOW! WHO KNEW? Throughout History, the British have always been brutal, on land and on sea, even with their own citizens at times. President Trump was right when he said during his trip that he would rather have them as allies than as enemies.

Our 4th Of July:
Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence ?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
What kind of men were they?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well-educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of Yorktown , Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.
So, following your 4th of July holiday perhaps you might silently thank these patriots for the price they paid.
Remember: freedom is never free! We thank these early patriots, as well as those patriots now fighting to KEEP our freedom!
Patriotism is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more MEANING to it than just a barbecue.

ball timing and cherry-picking Trump's statements. So far, with NATO and with elements of British government, Truth well - deserved...from an Ally. Now, on to a likely no-holds-barred negotiation with President Putin. At-A-Way, Mr. President.

"HOPE FOR BLACK AMERICA", BY BEN STEIN (Newsmax, Summer, 2018, p4). This is a "before and after" story about being Black in America, where the "after" is a work well in progress. There
has been great progress since my growing up years in the 30's through
50's in the Bronx. But, although we were "careful" in some other parts
of town, the words of my father always were with me: " There's a God in
every person". My main concern today is that some members of the
recent generations of Blacks have been taught and have absorbed the
wrong lessons by their "leaders": regarding school, regarding personal
responsibility, regarding lawful authority, regarding the central role
of family, of women, of sex and child rearing, and regarding their
"due" in a nation that only guarantees the "pursuit of happiness". And
the abuse of the word Racism" has become a self-inflicted wound with
the vast majority of fair-minded people, more than ever before. So: don't mess up your earned upward mobility and our honest support from the other "races". Deserve it.

AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT...ARROGANCE. "Dear America, appreciate your allies. After all, you don't have all that many". Donald Tusk, European Council President.
AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME IN THE WORK OF OUR PRESIDENT, with consequential meetings with NATO, with England and with Putin, we might consider the importance generally of Presidential actions, inactions and serious errors that are possible. A
highly researched book published in 2016 highlights that fact...this
related to the events before, surrounding and following Pearl Harbor -
even many years following that tragedy. "A
Matter Of Honor. Pearl Harbor: Betrayal, Blame, And A Family's Quest
For Justice", by Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan (HarperCollins). Far
from putting to rest the lingering suspicions about the actions of FDR
before and after the event, involving either gross incompetence at the
highest levels or even active involvement in making it happen, the
facts presented open the deep wounds, not only of scapegoated Admiral
Husband Kimmel and his family but of the nation. In my opinion, the
fact that several subsequent Presidents would not agree to revisit
those facts even many decades afterwards speaks volumes about their

Historically, the life of many democracies has been about 250 years.
The life of America is approaching 250 years...and the current physical
and moral examination of this patient reveals some serious
diseases. Promising treatments are being applied by this
Administration. The outcome of their effectiveness will be evident in
the elections of 2018 and 2020. If those go the wrong way, the
patient's health will enter a steep and probably irreversible decline,
from which only radical surgery (ie. civil war) will save a disabled
patient.
This is not hyperbole.

you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to
get an average of $1,185,000....
The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7
million....
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in
action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half
of which is taxable....
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs.....
If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry
or die....
And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18....
When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt...
Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of
$1.185 million up
to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough....Their deaths
were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the
wrong time...
Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their
families know the dangers....
(Actually, soldiers are put in harms way by politicians and commanding
officers.)
We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the
Oklahoma City
bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the
September 11 families are getting....In addition to that, some of the
families of those bombed in the
embassies are now asking for compensation as well.....
You see where this is going, don't you...?
Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics
in this country....It's just really sad....Every time a pay raise comes
up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a
raise....Now
the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families
have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing....
Make sense..?
However, our own U.S. Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you
don't know
that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension
that is more than $15,000 per month....
If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an
E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very
people who placed them in harm's way receives a pension of $15,000 per
month....
I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join
ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our
sons and daughters who are now
fighting....

THE STATE OF THE STATE
OF CONNECTICUT: A POTEMKIN VILLAGE.
Two statements published in The Day July 7, 2018 focus on this fact.
One is a fine Editorial entitled "Give
Independent Voters The Substance They Desire".
The other is a Letter To The Editor noting the impotence of our current
elected officials in making a difference. State
needs leaders who will work with the president
These statements define the nature and depth of the problem in
Connecticut.
But the solution is in the hands of the electorate: sclerotic
Democrats, demoralized Republicans and unengaged Independents, most of
whom stay at home on Election Day.
All of these citizens must be informed, and they must be enraged by the
status quo.
1) Any government run for decades by the same political party, whether
Democrat or Republican - but Democrat in this case - is by definition
corrupt and self-serving.
2) This Democrat government has been bought, lock, stock and barrel, by
the public employee unions of the State.
3) The TRUTH about the unconscionable pension contracts - binding to
the mid-2020's - by previous and current politicians must be uncovered
and reported, by The Day and by all other mainstream media including
ctmirror.com.
4) The STUPID positions taken by Connecticut Liberals and Leftists
regarding "entitlements", "immigration" and reflexive anti-Trumpism
must be made reflective of Reality, both in Connecticut and in
Washington. As distinguished from the Federal Government, THIS STATE
CANNOT PRINT MONEY!
5) All politicians and office holders of this State who do not get the
above message should be retired at the next opportunity. THROW THE BUMS
OUT!
6) The political parties, especially the Republican Party, must
actively target and inform all voters, not just registered Republicans
in preparation for the next elections: 2018 and 2020.
In this Nation and in this State, the People are ready for Change. Let's Change!

This is nothing less than a very valuable psychoanalysis of Russia
today, from its birth many centuries ago to the current giant nation
that must be engaged rather than dismissed - as our current cretin
Russia-phobes keep demanding.
"A Lost Love Gave Us Hemingway's Spare Prose", by Robert R.
Garnett. This has personal relevance for me. My father was a sergeant
of artillery in the Italian Army (then with the Allies) on the Austrian
front in the Dolomite Mountains when a retreat was required, resulting
in my Dad being in the same town and at the same time that wounded
Hemingway was in the local hospital- the scene of "For Whom The Bell
Tolls".
PS: Spare prose is the way to go.

ANOTHER EDITION OF
"AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY OPINIONS."
Macro-finance is certainly not my forte. But "Trump's
War On The WTO" got my attention, as does any opinion
claiming the supposed merits of world / super - national organizations
capable of out-voting American national interests. (In WSJ July 5,
2015, Opinion, page A15). Here the author tries to relate the heroic
efforts of Truman and Marshall in war-torn 1948 to the needs of the
current world. Wrong. Nothing wrong today with "economic nationalism",
or "America First"...especially when the U.S. has been taken advantage
of by rich countries for decades.
"Trump's 'Space Force' Idea Grounded In Sound Logic".
(Editorial in the Chicago Tribune, reprinted in our own The Day, July
5, 2018). I knew you could do it...be reasonable and unbiased, that is).
"The
IRS Can Save American Health Care" (in WSJ July 2, 2018,
Opinion, pA15). As with some medical research these days, where work
done and reported decades ago is resurrected and re-discovered today,
the authors resurrect and rename that logical but supressed Health
Savings Account as a new idea: "Health Reimbursement Arrangement".
Whatever. "A rose by any other name..." JUST DO IT, if you ever want to
get a handle on health care delivery run amok.
But don't do it the way the British National Health Service
seems to be doing it: "Reform the NHS Before It Kills You" (in WSJ July
5, 2018, Opinion, pA15). It seems that a "culture of euthanasia" has
been operative there - and hidden - for some time. It's amazing how you
can help the bottom line with an opioid and a syringe drive.

largely as a result of the legislative and regulatory morass produced
by the attacks of ObamaCare on reality.
In the micro world, as any
recent patient well knows, it's a jungle out there - with every patient
needing an advocate (good physician, family, friend) who will ask
questions, probe, and kick ass when necessary to protect his or her
charge.
It does not have to be that way. Health care delivery is not rocket
science.
