RAPID RESPONSE (Archives)...Daily Commentary on News of the Day
This is a new section.  It will offer fresh, quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in this rapid-fire world of ours.  Of course, as in military campaigns, a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction.  Charge that to "the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or military campaign must maintain to be effective.  But the mission will always be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick", supported by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be pro-active.  That's all I promise.

IF YOU KNOW HISTORY, NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN.

GS

Interesting read.  I remember reading about some of this in American History, when in High School.  But my guess, for Political Correctness, the text books of today leave out the parts about what precipitated the Cause for the creation of the Marine Corps.  AND, because Geography is taught in very few schools anymore, our youth likely haven't a clue where the Barbary Coast is.  Or for that matter, care!  Enjoy, Bill

I am forwarding to others to let them see how long USA has been fighting the Muslims.  To the Marines ~ Be proud~

The Marine Hymn ''To the shores of Tripoli".......                    Interesting concise history lesson and a good reminder       A bit long but very good reading !!!!!

A 232 Year History of our fight against Islam & why it is no longer taught in our public schools...

When Thomas Jefferson saw there was no negotiating with Muslims, he formed what is now the Marines (sea going soldiers). These Marines were attached to U. S. Merchant vessels. When the Muslims attacked U.S. merchant vessels they were repulsed by armed soldiers, but there is more.

The Marines followed the Muslims back to their villages and killed every man, woman, and child in the village.

It didn't take long for the Muslims to leave U.S. Merchant vessels alone.

English and French merchant vessels started running up our flag when entering the Mediterranean to secure safe travel.

Why the Marine Hymn contains the verse, "To the Shores of Tripoli ".

This is very interesting and a must read piece of our history. It points out where we may be heading.

Most Americans are unaware of the fact that over two hundred years ago the United States had declared war on Islam, and Thomas Jefferson led the charge!

At the height of the 18th century, Muslim pirates (the "Barbary Pirates") were the terror of the Mediterranean and a large area of the North Atlantic .

They attacked every ship in sight, and held the crews for exorbitant ransoms. Those taken hostage were subjected to barbaric treatment and wrote heart-breaking letters home, begging their governments and families to pay whatever their Mohammedan captors demanded.

These extortionists of the high seas represented the North African Islamic nations of Tripoli, Tunis , Morocco , and Algiers - collectively referred to as the Barbary Coast - and presented a dangerous and unprovoked threat to the new American Republic .

Before the Revolutionary War, U.S. merchant ships had been under the protection of Great Britain . When the U.S. declared its independence and entered into war, the ships of the United States were protected by France.

However, once the war was won, America had to protect its own fleets.

Thus, the birth of the U.S. Navy. Beginning in 1784, 17 years before he would become president, Thomas Jefferson became America's Minister to France. That same year, the U.S. Congress sought to appease its Muslim adversaries by following in the footsteps of European nations who paid bribes to the Barbary States rather than engaging them in war.

In July of 1785, Algerian pirates captured American ships, and the Dye of Algiers demanded an unheard-of ransom of $60,000. It was a plain and simple case of extortion, and Thomas Jefferson was vehemently opposed to any further payments.

Instead, he proposed to Congress the formation of a coalition of allied nations who together could force the Islamic states into peace. A disinterested Congress decided to pay the ransom.

In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams met with Tripoli's ambassador to Great Britain to ask by what right his nation attacked American ships and enslaved American citizens, and why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

The two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that  it was written in their Quran that all nations who would not acknowledge their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Despite this stunning admission of premeditated violence on non-Muslim nations, as well as the objections of many notable American leaders, including George Washington, who warned that caving in was both wrong and would only further embolden the enemy, for the following fifteen years, the American government paid the Muslims millions of dollars for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages.

The payments in ransom and tribute amounted to over 20 percent of the United States government annual revenues in 1800.

Jefferson was disgusted. Shortly after his being sworn in as the third President of the United States in 1801, the Pasha of Tripoli sent him a note demanding the immediate payment of $225,000 plus $25,000 a year for every year forthcoming.

That changed everything.

Jefferson let the Pasha know, in no uncertain terms, what he could do with his demand. The Pasha responded by cutting down the flagpole at the American consulate and declared war on the United States.

Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers immediately followed suit.

Jefferson, until now, had been against America raising a naval force for anything beyond coastal defense, but, having watched his nation be cowed by Islamic thuggery for long enough, decided that it was finally time to meet force with force.

He dispatched a squadron of frigates to the Mediterranean and taught the Muslim nations of the Barbary Coast a lesson he hoped they would never forget. Congress authorized Jefferson to empower U.S. ships to seize all vessels and goods of the Pasha of Tripoli and to "cause to be done all other acts of  precaution or hostility as the state of war would justify".

When Algiers and Tunis, who were both accustomed to American cowardice and acquiescence, saw the newly independent United States had both the will and the right to strike back, they quickly abandoned their allegiance to Tripoli.

The war with Tripoli lasted for four more years, and raged up again in 1815. The bravery of the U.S. Marine Corps in these wars led to the line "to  the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine Hymn, and they would forever be known as "leathernecks" for the leather collars of their uniforms, designed to prevent their heads from being cut off by the Muslim scimitars when boarding enemy ships.

Islam, and what its Barbary followers justified doing in the name of their prophet and their god, disturbed Jefferson quite deeply.

America had a tradition of religious tolerance. In fact Jefferson, himself, had co-authored the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, but fundamentalist Islam was like no other religion the world had ever seen.

A religion based on supremacy, whose holy book not only condoned but mandated violence against unbelievers, was unacceptable to him.

His greatest fear was that someday this brand of Islam would return and pose an even greater threat to the United States .

This should concern every American. That Muslims have brought about women-only classes and swimming times in America at taxpayer-funded universities and public pools; that Christians, Jews, and Hindus have been banned from serving on juries where Muslim defendants are being judged; Piggy banks and Porky Pig tissue dispensers have been banned from workplaces because they offend Islamist sensibilities; ice cream has been discontinued at certain Burger King locations because the picture on the wrapper looks similar to the Arabic script for Allah; public schools are pulling pork from their menus; on and on and on and on..

It's death by a thousand cuts, or inch-by-inch as some refer to it, and most Americans have no idea that this battle is being waged every day  across America. By not fighting back, by allowing groups to obfuscate what is really happening, and not insisting that the Islamists adapt to our culture, the United States is cutting its own throat with a politically correct knife, and helping to further the Islamists' agenda.

Sadly, it appears that today America's leaders would rather be politically correct than victorious!

IF YOU DO NOT REMEMBER THE PAST, YOU ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT.

FYI, FROM ONE OF THESE LUCKY ONES (1933).
And we can still teach you a great deal.  Just ask.

GS

Children of (1930s) & (1940s)

Born in the 1930s and early 40s, we exist as a very special age. We are the Silent Generation.
We are the smallest number of children born since the early 1900s. We are the "last ones."

We are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war which rattled the structure of our daily lives for years.

We are the last to remember ration books for everything from gas to sugar to shoes to stoves.
We saved tin foil and poured fat into tin cans.
We hand mixed ’white stuff’ with ‘yellow stuff’ to make fake butter.

We saw cars up on blocks because tires weren't available.  We can remember milk being delivered to our house early in the morning and placed in the “milk box” on the porch. [A friend’s mother delivered milk in a horse drawn cart.] We sometimes fed the horse.

We are the last to hear Roosevelt's radio assurances and to see gold stars in the front windows of our grieving neighbors.

We can also remember the parades on August 15, 1945; VJ Day.

We saw the 'boys' home from the war, build their Cape Cod style houses, pouring the cellar, tar papering it over and living there until they could afford the time and money to build it out.

We remember trying to buy a new car after the war. The new cars were coming through with wooden bumpers.

We are the last generation who spent childhood without television; instead we imagined what we heard on the radio.

As we all like to brag, with no TV, we spent our childhood "playing outside until the street lights came on."  We did play outside and we did play on our own. There was no little league.  There was no city playground for kids.

To play in the water, we turned the fire hydrants on and ran through the spray.

The lack of television in our early years meant, for most of us, that we had little real understanding of what the world was like.

Our Saturday afternoons, if at the movies, gave us newsreels of the war sandwiched in between westerns and cartoons.

Telephones were one to a house, often party-lined and hung on the wall.

Computers were called calculators, which only added and were hand cranked; typewriters were driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the ribbon. The ‘internet’ and ‘GOOGLE’ were words that didn’t exist.

We are the last group who had to find out for ourselves  As we grew up, the country was exploding with growth.

The G.I. Bill gave returning veterans the means to get an education and spurred colleges to grow.
VA loans fanned a housing boom. Pent-up demand coupled with new installment payment plans put factories to work.  New highways would bring jobs and mobility. The veterans joined civic clubs and became active in politics.

In the late 40's and early 50's the country seemed to lie in the embrace of brisk, but quiet, order as it gave birth to its new middle class (which became known as ‘Baby Boomers’).

The radio network expanded from 3 stations to thousands of stations.  The telephone started to become a common method of communications and "Faxes" sent hard copy around the world.

Our parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the war and they threw themselves into exploring opportunities they had never imagined.  We weren't neglected but we weren't today's all-consuming family focus.

They were glad we played by ourselves 'until the street lights came on.'  They were busy discovering the post war world.

Most of us had no life plan, but with the unexpected virtue of ignorance and an economic rising tide we simply stepped into the world and started to find out what the world was about.

We entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where we were welcomed.

Based on our naïve belief that there was more where this came from, we shaped life as we went.

We enjoyed a luxury; we felt secure in our future.

Of course, just as today, not all Americans shared in this experience. Depression poverty was deep rooted.  Polio was still a crippler.  The Korean War was a dark presage in the early 50s and by mid-decade school children were ducking under desks.

Russia built the “Iron Curtain” and China became Red China.  Eisenhower sent the first 'advisors' to Vietnam ; and years later, Johnson invented a war there.  Castro set up camp in Cuba and Khrushchev came to power.

We are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no existential threats to our homeland.

We came of age in the 40s and early 50s. The war was over and the cold war, terrorism, Martin Luther King, civil rights, technological upheaval, “global warming”, and perpetual economic insecurity had yet to haunt life with insistent unease.

Only our generation can remember both a time of apocalyptic war and a time when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty. We have lived through both.

We grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better, not worse.

We are the Silent Generation - "The Last Ones".

More than 99.9% of us are either retired or deceased, and feel privileged to have "lived in the best of times”.

ONCE MORE, WITH FEELING: THE HEALTH CARE BILL.

2) "CT Dems Slam Senate Health Bill That Endangers State's Medicaid Expansion", by Ana Radelat, in Ctmirror.org, June 22, 2017.
A quotation from #1 article encapsulates the controversy:
"For those who believe the government is too involved in health care, the Senate bill stands as an overdue course correction. But those who believe health care is a right will see it as a step back."
For me, there is no "right" to health care paid for by others so long as over 50% of health care needs are the direct result of adverse life styles.  Where is the individual responsibility for one's self? Until Health Care Reforms as I have long espoused are enacted, this is all just "trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".

THE STATE OF THE WORLD...ENOUGH BLAME FOR EVERYONE.
OK, now that that's settled, let's work on some solutions.

Two recent articles are noteworthy here.
1) "Remember The Population Bomb? It's Still Ticking", by Eugene Linden, in NYTimes Sunday, June 18, 2017, SR p4.
2) "Europe's Elites Seem Determined To Commit Suicide by 'Diversity',
by Douglas Murray, in WSJ Monday, June 19, 2017, Opinion, pA17.

In the first, we can reflect on what centuries of Colonialism followed by abandonment and / or exploitation have wrought: African "countries" like Lesotho and another 17 that arose like weeds, often with little chance for success as "independent nations".
In the second, we see the workings of a combination of guilt and stupidity.
To this must be added the decades - old admonitions of the Catholic Church to pray and multiply, while "God will provide". Well, the Bible (or was it my father) indicates that "God helps those who help themselves". In this case, where we are told that "In 1974, the average woman in Lesotho gave birth to six children", it is in my opinion criminal and totally unnecessary on moral grounds for the Church to continue to prohibit non-abortifacient contraception.
This is not an issue of global warming / climate change. The issue is the continuing failure of Humanity to rise above its more base instincts, an ability which God gave us together with the Gift of Free Will...but a gift which we rarely embrace.
Meanwhile: "GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES".

TODAY I OFFER THREE ARTICLES ON
THE STATE OF THE DISUNION.
They are provided to support my several PREDICTIONS.
1) Yes, the Russians are coming...and already came.
2) No, neither Donald Trump nor any of his campaign team had any improper or actionable contact with the Russian efforts during the campaign. And those actions had no effect on  the outcome, except to further my original conviction: "Anybody but Bonnie and Clyde".
3) Prediction #2 will be the finding, whether sooner or much later, of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. If sooner, measured in weeks, Mr. Mueller will have reinforced his past stellar reputation.  If much later, measured in many months (designed to prolong as much as possible the difficulties imposed on the Trump Administration), he will have added to his Resume: Pimp for the hysterical Leftist Whores.
4) President Trump will nonetheless continue to reverse some of Obama's worst actions, will continue to drain the swamp of both Rino Republicans and of the above-mentioned Leftists, and will put this nation back on track, all within his first four years.
5) Leakers of all shapes and sizes will face criminal charges, at long last, as promised by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
6) Regardless of the above developments, the hysterical Left will continue uninterrupted their baseless charges and attacks, because they are and always have been despotic totalitarians. It's their way, or attack by every possible means, legal or otherwise...especially otherwise. No Rule of Law or majority rule or democracy there.
7) The persistently Stupid Republican Party will lose the House of Representatives in 2018.  But Donald Trump will win a second term in 2020, on the merits of his administration's accomplishments.

THE "GOOD OL' DAYS."
These stories may sound made-up.  They are not.
When I was an intern at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, 1957-58, my tour of duty for one year was:
a) Monday through Friday, 36 hours on duty and 12 hours off;
b) On duty every alternate weekend: from Friday 7 AM through Monday 5 PM.

During those tours, we got sleep if, as and when we could.

I remember on several occasions being awakened by a phone call from the ward with a request for morphine for a patient, straining to think of the right response to the question, answering the question, immediately falling back to sleep, and having absolutely no recollection of the interaction when I saw the transcription of my telephone order on the patient's chart. Fortunately, no mistakes. And I remember entering an elderly patient's room and finding another intern fully asleep with his head nestled in the cradled bosom of the kindly woman, having fallen asleep while listening to her heart with his stethoscope.
We all survived...I think.

THE STATE OF THE DISUNION: THE COMEY FILES.
The Bible states: "The Truth Will Make You Free".
Well, we all have a long way to go before the Truth is out.
I have begun what will be a large print and e-mail file on this subject.  I will of course ultimately have and express my own opinion, of greatest value mainly to myself. Meanwhile, I suggest that we all reserve judgment on James Comey, on President Trump, and on the State of the Union in these historic times.

"WHO DECIDES WHEN A PATIENT CAN'T?  STATUTES ON ALTERNATE DECISION MAKERS".
New England Journal of Medicine, April 23, 2017, p1478.

A few facts:
1) About 50% of a patient's health care costs are incurred in the last 6 months of his/her life.
2) Over 70% of people agree with the desirability of having a "Living Will / Advanced Directive" and a designated Health Care Advocate.
3) Only about 20% of people actually have taken these actions while they still can.
IF YOU WANT THE ABILITY, AT SOME POINT, TO SAY "STOP THE WORLD; I WANT TO GET OFF", YOU HAD BETTER GET OFF YOUR BUTT NOW!

"HEALTH CARE REFORM" IS RAPIDLY BECOMING AN
OXYMORON.
This is certainly not for lack of need or of opportunity. It is because of political cowardice of all Parties in the face of public ignorance, delusions and obstinacy. The greatest delusion is the idea of a governmental "single payor system.
See the offerings on my web site under "Health Law Topics" for a concentrated series of proposals which I have been making publicly for four decades.

STRAIGHT TALK FROM OUR PRESIDENT.

Once again, President Trump is criticized for his straight talk on the most recent London terrorist attacks and the officials' responses to them.  And he is criticized for his straight talk calling one element of his proposed immigration policy a "travel ban". Of course, the State Department is "shocked, shocked".

Well, did you ever think of an origin of the word "Diplomacy"? You won't find this in the posted dictionary definition of that word. But look just above that word and find the word "diploid".

There you have it: "double", as in DOUBLE-SPEAK.

President Trump is having none of that. And nor are the many millions of his supporters, Americans all.

Get used to it. It's another way of draining the swamp.

I'LL BE 85 YEARS OLD IN JANUARY...
AND I'M NOT COMPLAINING.
Here's why.

GS

CALL THE POLICE - WHEN YOU'RE OLD, AND YOU DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.

George Phillips, an elderly man from Walled Lake, Michigan, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turnoff the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"
He said "No," but some people are breaking into my garden shed and
stealing from me."
Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy, you should lock your
doors and an officer will be along when one is available"
George said, "Okay." He hung up the phone and counted to 30.
Then he phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot and killed them both; the dogs are eating them right now," and he hung up.
Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire
Trucks, a Paramedic and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence,
and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"
(True Story)
Don't mess with old people.

GETTING OLDER

A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office.
"Is it true," she wanted to know,
"that the medication you prescribed has to be taken
for the rest of my life?"
"'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence
before the senior lady replied,
"I'm wondering, then,
just how serious is my condition
because this prescription is
marked 'NO REFILLS'.."

***********************
An older gentleman was on the operating table
awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son,
a renowned surgeon, perform the operation.
As he was about to get the anesthesia, he asked
to speak to his son.
"Yes, Dad, what is it?"
"Don't be nervous, son; do your best,
and just remember, if it doesn't go well,
if something happens to me, your mother
is going to come and
live with you and your wife...."

Aging:
Eventually you will reach a point
when you stop lying about your
age and start bragging about it.
This is so true.
I love to hear them say
"you don't look that old."

---------------------------------

The older we get, the fewer things
seem worth waiting in line for.
(Mostly because we forgot why we
were waiting in line in the first place !!)

---------------------------------

Some people try to turn back their odometers.
Not me!
I want people to know why I look this way.
I've traveled a long way and some of
the roads weren't paved.

When you are dissatisfied

One of the many things
no one tells you about aging
is that it is such a nice change
from being young.

~~~~~~~~~~
Ah, being young is beautiful,
but being old is comfortable.
then you forget faces.
Then you forget to pull up
your zipper... it's worse when
you forget to pull it down
````````````````

Two guys, one old, one young,
are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart
when they collide.
The old guy says to the young guy,
"Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife,
and I guess I wasn't paying attention
to where I was going."
The young guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence.
I'm looking for my wife, too...
I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate."
The old guy says,
"Well, maybe I can help you find her...
what does she look like?"
The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 yrs. old, tall,
with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom...wearing no bra,
long legs, and is wearing short shorts.
What does your wife look like?'
To which the old guy says, "Doesn't
matter, --- let's look for yours."

*********************

(And this final one especially for me,)
"Lord, keep Your arm around my shoulder
and Your hand over my mouth!"
Now, if you feel this doesn't apply to you . . .
stick around awhile . . .
it will!

THE EDITORIAL POSITIONS OF THE DAY NEWSPAPER.
A tale of two mindsets.
We all know that The Day, an excellent daily newspaper, has long been Liberal in political bent. Unfortunately, the recent Presidential campaign and the outcome have tilted it Leftist - not a compliment.

But there appear to be two mindsets at work there. Paul Choiniere, evidently until recently Editorial Page Editor, has always been Liberal and logical. See his most recent offering entitled "2018 State Election May Have Just Begun", relating to the State of "DisConnecticut".

Now comes "The Day Editorial Board", complete with a description of its composition. Looks good on paper; but sounds like an echo-chamber. As evidence, I offer its most recent pronouncement: "Trump Takes Nation Down Isolationist Path", full of half-truths, distortions and hyperbole. "Folie a Deux" (or three or four or more in this case) is a well-established psychiatric condition.  Beware!

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS NOT VERBATIM, AND IS CERTAINLY NOT ORIGINAL.
But it is absolutely true.
If you want to understand the Present, know the Past.
To support this statement, I offer two excellent books, one in the Present, and one a treasure-trove of the Past.
1) "Pope Francis. The Struggle for the Soul of Catholicism",  by Paul Vallely, Bloomsbury, 2013-2015.
2) "A Pope and A President. John Paul ll, Ronald Reagan, and the Extraordinary Untold Story of the 20th Century", by Paul Kengor, ISI Books, 2017.
The first describes a work in progress: a Holy Man and a not-so-holy Roman Curia. I hope Pope Francis' is an iron fist in a velvet glove.
The second is a story better know to me than to most, thanks to the contemporaneous efforts of my wife, Therese, beginning in 1979 when she and her mother visited Poland, and continuing throughout the 1980's when she was engaged in independent studies that led to her publication of a monograph in 1989 entitled: "Poland And The Catholic Church During The Nazi Domination." (This is available on this web site within the Category "Abortion, Morality and Ethics" and under the title "Catholic Church).
I hope that there can develop parallels between the events documented in the second book and an effective relationship between President Trump and Pope Francis as regards present day Russia.

VLADIMIR PUTIN.
Certainly not yet believable, but humanized. That's important.
And what's wrong with communicating and negotiating with a nation of over 300 million people, with a land mass spanning 9 time zones, a military that can credibly challenge ours, and a nuclear arsenal that can wipe out the world ten times over? And a nation that wants to "deal"?
Must I repeat these truisms: "KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE.  KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER".
And: "Nations do not have 'friends'; they have interests".
And: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".
And "REALPOLITIK". Check out the life's work of Henry Kissinger.
And it must be done from a position of national strength and influence, not based upon how many international organizations of "allies" we belong to. President Donald Trump understands that.

"ALL THE ANTI-TRUMP NEWS THAT FITS, WE PRINT"
For a long time, that has been the revised promise of the
New York Times, too long revered as the "newspaper of record".
No more, and not for a long time.
By contrast, and excluding their Editorials, with which I often disagree as being too pro-big business, the Wall Street Journal is reliably a fountain of real news, commentary and cultural insights. In addition to my frequent references to their articles in this Rapid Response section, I offer as proof the entire publication for Saturday-Sunday, June 3-4, 2017, and particularly the weekly section simply entitled "Review". NATIONAL SECURITY, NOT RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE.
President Trump's national immigration control proposals are now before the USSC. Given the daily new evidence that the world and Americans are under attack from fanatics, most of them falsely alleging that they are "Muslims", and given the prime responsibility of a President to protect the nation, and given the clear distinction made by our President during his visit recently to Saudi Arabia between true Muslims and these infidel pretenders - a position evidently accepted by the King / Protector of Islam and including the primary responsibility of true Muslims to eliminate these murderous pretenders, and further explained by Dr. Charles Krauthammer in his recent article entitled "Middle East Peace Starts In Saudi Arabia", (in The Day, May 27, 2017, Opinion, pA6), the USSC should take the case and should uphold the proposals.
There are two criteria that the USSC can use in determining the constitutionality of a piece of legislation: "Strict Scrutiny", or "...rationally related to a legitimate legislative end". In my opinion, this presidential action should be upheld under either test.

MORE ON THE CONFLICT OVER CONFEDERATE CIVIL WAR MONUMENTS.
This debate is not new.
See: "The Fate Of The Fallen, by Victor Davis Hanson, in WSJ Review, May 27-28, 2017, pC1.
The author compares the Funeral Oration of Pericles in 431 BC and Lincoln's Gettyburg Address.  In both are found that "the Western tradition of commemoration also includes a unique idea of individual moral exemption". In my opinion, that means commemorating the humanity of all the fallen within the inhumanity of War.

GS

REGARDING THE PARIS CLIMATE ACCORDS.
Please check out the offerings on my web site section, ongoing, entitled "The Arctic and Global Warming". My opinion on Global Warming / Climate Change is included.
I believe that President Trump took the correct action in removing the United States from the pledges (nothing more for less honest nations) embodied in that document.
"America First".
"Peace through Strength".
"Speak softly and carry a big stick".
"You want Peace? Prepare for War".
These expressions are all wise and true.
However, "America First Doesn't Mean America Alone", as expressed recently by two of our Trump Cabinet Secretaries (in WSJ May 31, 2017, Opinion, pA17).
After the now - rampant hysteria of the Leftists subsides, the wisdom of this action will become evident - even if never acknowledged by some.
