This is a new
section. It will
offer fresh,
quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in
this rapid-fire world of ours. Of course, as in military
campaigns,
a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed
by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction. Charge that
to
"the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or
military
campaign must maintain to be effective. But the mission will
always
be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",
supported
by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be
pro-active.
That's all I promise.

THE PROFESSION AND PRACTICE OF MEDICINE:
UNDER ATTACK.
I
have reported about this phenomenon, a combination of naive stupidity
and cynical intent, for a long time and from the vantage point of
nearly 60 years as a practising physician. Most recently, I
have
addressed the unethical goals and practices sold under the rubric
"Accountable Care Organizations".

article that dissects this anti-patient effort into its means and ends
- and also offers the only antidote that can counter such pressures:

POPE FRANCIS IS A "GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING"
His
recent comments to Deacons, published here, apply exactly to
Physicians: what they traditionally have been and what they should
continue to be.
As a result of withering and purposeless
pressures, some older physicians are "giving up". And some younger
physicians, knowing nothing other than a profession beset by these
pressures, are giving half-measures and are saving the rest for
themselves and their families. It is understandable. But what a shame,
for both the physicians and for their patients.
"PHARMACEUTICAL GREED AND ITS CONSEQUENCES", by Henry E. Jacobs, M.D.,
J.D. (in Connecticut Medicine, May 2016, p315).
Here
is an excellent - and infuriating - expose of an industry and its
minions in Government that are robbing us blind and killing us in the
process. This is not hyperbole. In fact, the Medicare Act of 2002
specifically prohibits the Federal Government from negotiating medicine
prices with this industry!
Here is yet another reason for THE
PEOPLE to be very angry, angry enough to rise up and into the streets,
if this country does not change course - and soon.
This
monograph by Andrew C. McCarthy, published in the February 2016 edition
of Imprimis (Hillsdale.Edu.), is both an expose on Islam and a question
about our current Government.
Are we witnessing Negligence, Recklessness, or Intent?
My conclusion: either Recklessness or Intent...in either case
approaching or representing Treason.

THE CHURCH: ONE,
HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC.
Here,
a powerful Statement. I do not totally agree, as reflected in some of
my many commentaries posted in the section "What's Right...and
Wrong...With the Catholic Church" ( in the "Abortion, Morality and
Ethics" section of this web site). But a true compass in our free-will
journey through life is invaluable.
A "PERFECT STORM" INDEED.
The
premise of Accountable Care Organizations is Unethical and will lead to
the demise of the ethical and patient - centered Medical Profession
long before anyone realizes it. It places for the first time ever
perverse incentives for the physician in direct opposition to the needs
of the patient.
Read the following, reproduced verbatim. Then see what you think as a
potential or actual patient.
If you don't like it, speak up now...or forever hold the pieces.
In
1964, after reading the national platforms of both the then -
Democratic and Republican Parties, I registered for the first time as a
Democrat. I remained in that Party until 1990, by which time
I
realized that the Party had left me for then - parts unknown. Shortly
thereafter, I joined the Republican Party, the Party of Ronald Reagan,
mind you, and not that weak sister of Rockefeller.
Now I see that I face a "fork in the road". And I will follow
Yogi Berra's wise counsel: I will take it.

Nothing
has changed. The Teachers' Unions and their supporters continue to
deserve the apt description given to the tobacco industry in the late
1960's:

MEANWHILE...
and these far - out Lefties and these Black whores ( I mean "leaders")
are your friends, those whom you are depending on?
"VALUE-BASED MEDICAL CARE".
Sounds like a no-brainer, right?
Not when your Government defines and implements it!
In
fact, although our Health Care Regulators are doing as much as possible
to make it sound like "motherhood and apple pie", THE DRIVER FOR THIS
PLAN IS REDUCTION IN HEALTH CARE COSTS, at any cost.
And the
vehicle for this trip is inherently UNETHICAL: rewarding physicians for
providing less health care, and punishing them for providing more
health care...perverse incentives that for the first time place the
interests of physicians in opposition to the interests and needs of
their patients.
It is RATIONING ON STEROIDS, couched in such
reasonable terms as "evidence-based medicine", "efficient health care
delivery" and "patient satisfaction".
NOW HEAR THIS: That's
exactly how I have always practiced Medicine in my 59 years as a
physician. But that will not shield me from being crippled with yet
more demands for "documentation" beginning in 2017; and it will not
prevent me from being penalized 4% of my receivables beginning in 2019
unless I want a 4% increase by cheating my patients of the care they
need. That's what we're talking about, without the sugar-coating.
THE
ABOVE IS DIRECTED MAINLY TO THE PATIENT / PUBLIC. For the
Regulators don't give a damn about what physicians and other health
care providers care or say. They do care about what the voters
say.
So: "DON'T JUST STAND THERE. DO SOMETHING", for a change.
"BASTA".
Here is a very pithy Italian word that literally translates as "ENOUGH".
The following are my current offerings that fit this conclusion:
1) "BLACK LIVES MATTER".
They
surely do. From the pervasive attitude of Black males toward Black
women: the mothers and grandmothers who raised them under difficult
circumstances (including 70% without fathers in the household)...after
they had succeeded in avoiding rampant abortion rates among Black
mothers; from cynical liberal (generally Democratic) politicians who
offered them "self-image", which can only be personally earned, and
also offered them all manner of generous hand-outs without any need for
self-actuation or personal responsibility; to decades-long blind
support for a failed public school school system again foisted on them
by the Democratic Party, a wholly - owned subsidiary of the corrupt and
entirely self-serving Teachers Unions; to the execrable "Black

d) "A Confession of Liberal Intolerance:
We're big on diversity, but not when it comes to conservatives in
academia", by Nicholas Kristof, NYTimes Sunday, May 8, Sunday Review,
p11.
THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS ROAMS THE WORLD,
currently mainly in the garb of ISIS and the other fundamentalist
radical Muslims.
But
darkness is required, including by means of the complete refusal of
this Administration to acknowledge the obvious. Thus:

HERE'S AN "AHA" MOMENT.
If
you drive anywhere, and especially if you listen - at almost any time
of day - to the New York City traffic news, you recognize the excessive
speed, the recklessness, and the resulting number of "accidents" that
totally disrupt vehicular traffic. Most of these are not
"accidents" but inevitable events simply waiting to happen.
What to do?
1) Replace "No Fault" with "Fault" in insurance coverage and in
criminal liability.
2)
If culpable in a "Fault" incident, the driver loses his driver's
license for one year. A second such incident results in a
three
year suspension. If a person drives despite a suspended
license,
he loses his license permanently and gets one year in jail, for the
initial event, to think about it.
3) Use the technology described in this article to provide proof of
excessive speed and/or recklessness.
Will our fearless leaders propose and pass such legislation, with the
likely loss of votes and political contributions?
And the Far Left needs to know
what Admiral Yamamoto knew in 1941, after having studied in America
before his attack on Pearl Harbor, and warning his superiors about
their intent to invade America.

The
American Left’s desire to crush Liberty and dissent in order to
“fundamentally transform the United States of America” has reached
metastatic levels. In the last three weeks alone, the following stories
have surfaced. All of which indicate we are well on our way toward
relinquishing our birthright. Even worse, millions of Americans are
apparently more than willing to do so.
First,
this week the
Supreme Court heard arguments in the United States v. Texas case that
will determine whether a president can unilaterally rewrite immigration
law. If SCOTUS rules in Barack Obama’s favor, the separation of powers
outlined in the first three articles of the Constitution will be
rendered moot and, as political analyst Charles Krauthammer wryly
observed, “you can send Congress home.” And the Left is not content to
stop there. A coalition of 118 cities and counties have filed a legal
brief asserting they will lose up to $800 million in economic benefits
if large numbers of illegal aliens remain subject to deportation.
Second,
the IRS has admitted it abides the use of fraudulent Social Security
numbers used by illegal aliens to process tax payments — and refunds.
Third,
in New York and California, Democratic attorneys general Eric
Schneiderman and Kamala Harris are pursuing fraud investigations
against Exxon, based on the premise they can “prosecute persons and
institutions with nonconforming views on global warming,” writes
National Review’s Kevin Williams. “Prosecuting political institutions
and businesses for political activism is brown-shirt business.”
Fourth,
the Obama administration, already under fire for its determination to
flood America with Syrian “refugees,” announced it will reduce its
vetting process to three months, instead of 18-24 months. They claim
the reduced time is necessary to handle a sped-up “surge operation”
whose population is 99% Sunni Muslim. Even more insulting, Gina Kassem,
the regional refugee coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, noted
the administration’s target of 10,000 refugees “is a floor and not a
ceiling, and it is possible to increase the number.”
Fifth,
using the Fair Housing Act as a club, the Obama administration is
forcing cities to embrace “diversity” that consists of building
low-income housing in affluent neighborhoods nationwide. This forced
integration scheme is political gerrymandering in disguise, and it is
aimed at taking peoples' basic property rights and the constitutionally
protected right of free association and tossing them on the ash heap of
history.
Sixth,
in North Carolina, the federal government
threatens to withhold billions of dollars in federal aid for schools,
highways and housing unless the state repeals a law restricting local
authorities from over-riding state law that restricts the use of
bathrooms transgender people can use. The Rainbow Mafia’s corporate
hitmen are boycotting the state, aligning themselves with the idea that
self-identification, and not genital makeup, is the only criterion that
can be used to determine access. Not only to bathrooms, but locker
rooms, and membership on sports teams as well. Tennessee will be the
next state targeted by federal government’s wrath.
Seventh,
when
French President Francois Hollande referred to “Islamist terrorism” at
a meeting with Obama in early April, the White House initially deleted
the phrase from its audio translation, only to restore it when
questioned about the deletion. “The Obama administration must be aware
that in the 1930s, the Soviet Union wiped clean all photos, recordings
and films of Leon Trotsky on orders from Josef Stalin,” writes
historian Victor Davis Hanson. “Trotsky was deemed politically
incorrect, and therefore his thoughts and photos simply vanished.”
Eighth,
an astounding video taken at the University of Washington shows
students struggling to disagree with a 5'-9" Caucasian male’s assertion
that he is a 6'-5" Chinese female first-grader. “These are actual
college students,” writes columnist Rod Dreher. “Adults who have the
right to vote. And their reason is so compromised that they are unsure
what the man in front of them is, so terrified are they of saying the
wrong thing. … These people are ripe for dictatorship. They will not
let themselves see reality if it offends against the party line.”
Ninth,
in a vote at Stanford University, efforts by a group of students to
restore a class requirement in Western Civilization was rejected by 85%
the student body, and a student suspected of writing an article in
support of the measure was suspended from a low-income advocacy group
known as the Stanford First-Generation Low Income Partnership. A column
in campus newspaper, The Stanford Daily, warned that passing such a
proposal “would necessitate that our education be centered on upholding
white supremacy, capitalism and colonialism, and all other oppressive
systems that flow from Western civilizations.”
And
tenth, in a
speech at the Vatican, Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders
insisted that Americans “must reject the foundations of this
contemporary [capitalist] economy as immoral and unsustainable,”
further insisting that we must “redirect our efforts and vision to the
common good.” Perhaps Sanders could explain why forcibly taking the
fruits of one American’s labor and giving it to another is moral, and
which group of leftist elites who believe they own the franchise on
“enlightened thinking” gets to define “common good” — using coercive
government as their vehicle for doing so.
Make
no mistake: The
same American Left that purportedly champions dissent, diversity,
tolerance and inclusion utterly rejects anyone or anything that
deviates from their definition of the terms. Moreover, they are at best
intent on intimidating those opposing views — or, at worst,
criminalizing those views at worst.
“Eternal
vigilance is the
price of liberty,” Thomas Jefferson reminds us. Ronald Reagan put it
this way: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from
extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It
must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same,
or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our
children’s children what it was once like in the United States where
men were free.”
Those
sunset years are upon us. It’s time to fight back.

Of A Sudden....Seven Short Years Have

Obama there was virtually no outlandish presence of Islam
in America. All
of a sudden, Islam is taught in schools. Christianity and the
bible are banned in
schools. All
of a sudden we must allow prayer rugs everywhere and allow for
Islamic prayer in schools, airports and businesses. All
of a sudden we must stop serving pork in prisons. All
of a sudden we are inundated with law suits by Muslims who are
offended by American culture. All
of a sudden we must allow burkas to be worn everywhere even
though you have no idea who or what is covered up under them. All
of a sudden Muslims are suing employers and refusing to do
their jobs if they personally deem it conflicts with Sharia Law. All
of a sudden the Attorney General of the United States vows to
prosecute anyone who engages in anti-Muslim speechќ. All
of a sudden, Jihadists who engage in terrorism and openly
admit they acted in the name of Islam and ISIS, are emphatically
declared they
are NOT Islamic by
our leaders and/or their actions are determined NOT to be
terrorism, but other nebulous terms like "workplace violence." All
of a sudden, it becomes Policy that Secular Middle East
dictators that were benign or friendly to the West, must be replaced by
Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood. All
of a sudden our troops are withdrawn from Iraq and the middle
east, giving rise to ISIS. All
of a sudden, America has reduced its nuclear stockpiles to
1950 levels, as Obama’s stated goal of a nuke-free America by the time
he
leaves officecontinues
uninterrupted. All
of a sudden, a deal with Iran must be made at any cost, with a
pathway to nuclear weapons and HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of dollars handed
over to
fund their programs. All
of a sudden America APOLOGIZES to Muslim states and sponsors
of terror worldwide for acts of aggression, war and sabotage THEY
perpetrate
against our soldiers. All
of a sudden, the American Navy is diminished to 1917 Pre-World
War I levels of only 300 ships. The Army is at pre-1940 levels. The Air
Force
scraps 500 planes and planned to retire the use of the A-10 Thunderbolt
close
air support fighter. A further draw down of another 40,000
military
personnel is in progress. All
of a sudden half of our aircraft carriers are recalled for
maintenance by Obama rendering the Atlantic unguarded, NONE are in the
Middle
East. All
of a sudden Obama has to empty Guantanamo Bay of captured
Jihadists and let them loose in Jihad-friendly Islamic
states. He demands
to close the facility. All
of a sudden America will negotiate with terrorists and trade
FIVE Taliban commanders for a deserter and Jihad sympathizer. All
of a sudden there is no money for American poor, disabled
veterans, jobless Americans, hungry Americans, or displaced Americans
but there
is endless money for Obama’s Syrian refugeeќ resettlement
programs. All
of sudden there is an ammunition shortage in the USA. All
of a sudden, the most important thing for Obama to do after a
mass shooting by two Jihadists, is disarm American Citizens. *
All of a sudden, the President of the United States cannot
attend the Christian Funerals of a Supreme Court Justice and a former
First
Lady because of previous (seemingly unimportant) commitments. ...
"By his fruits you will know him." All
of a sudden, I am sick to my stomach.

FEEDING FRENZY.
While
following the Presidential Primary campaigns over the last several
months, I have been consistent throughout in my commentaries in this
Rapid Response section:
1) ANYBODY BUT BONNIE AND CLYDE;
2) THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE MUST PREVAIL OVER ALL ELSE.
Now
comes Donald Trump as the "presumptive" Republican candidate for
President...and the Earth has suddenly begun rotating much faster in a
feeding frenzy against Trump. The President, Hillary, Senator
Elizabeth Warren, the totally co-opted national media, some
"presumptive" Republicans, the beaten would-be President candidates,
the many talking heads emerging like so many mushrooms in a dank and
dark forest....
In fact, everyone including both those who are not
longer capable of rational thought (eg. "2+2=5 or 6 or 7, but never 4),
and those whistling while running by their perceived cemetery.
EVERYBODY, THAT IS, EXCEPT THE PEOPLE.
Now comes a bit of truth and logic: an article by Eugene Robinson
published in the Washington Post recently entitled:
"Trump Fills Vacuum Left By The Republican Party".
Under
all of these circumstances, Donald Trump has a challenge at least as
taxing as would be his Presidency if elected BY THE PEOPLE.
But he
must remain true to himself and true to his people. He must avoid being
goaded into perpetual negative sound-bites; and he must be specific
regarding his philosophy, strategy and tactics of governance - in a
Nation that must restore good governance after nearly 8 terrible years,
and in a world that is increasingly non-governable.
Meanwhile, I will hold to my consistent positions.

MITT ROMNEY: A LOSER, AND NOW EITHER INSANE OR INSANELY JEALOUS.
Such an action would guarantee the accession of Bonnie and Clyde to the
Throne of America.
It would also guarantee massive nation-wide disobedience - and probably
worse.
