RAPID
RESPONSE (Archives)...Daily Commentary on News of the Day
This is a new section. It will
offer fresh,
quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in
this rapid-fire world of ours. Of course, as in military
campaigns,
a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed
by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction. Charge that to
"the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or
military
campaign must maintain to be effective. But the mission will
always
be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",
supported
by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be pro-active.
That's all I promise.

OBAMACARE - AND MY PLAN B
As a practicing
physician (not a "provider") for over 56
years, I know what works - and what doesn't work - for my patients and
for
me. That is what has kept me eager and effective in my
work.
OBAMACARE is just the latest challenge to that work. OBAMACARE is
a
monstrosity that will fall of its own stupidities within the next three
years:
a gaudy Christmas Tree of wants with no attention paid to the true
reforms
needed in the U.S. delivery of health care.
But we must survive
the next three miserable years.
Herewith, my personal Plan B for survival in practice.
- My greatest value to my patients is my TIME.
- Decades ago I decided to maximize my professional time by
integrating my work with that of highly trained Registered Nurses.
- This has allowed me to accept all insurance programs,
regardless of the often - insulting levels of payment, except for those
programs that require a prior referral from a less qualified physician,
impinging on the patient's right of choice of physician.
- This has also allowed me never to have "closed my practice"
to new patients.
- The only condition I place on patients in return for my
continued interest and efforts on their behalf is that they be equally
interested in their own care. I work with patients, not for
patients; and those who are not equally engaged, cooperative and
compliant with my instructions find themselves discharged from my care.
- I offer my "best efforts " and personal devotion. I
never guarantee my work or the outcome of that work. And I never
take personal or financial risk for the outcome of that work, a stance
that would put me in a conflict of interest with the patient and which
thus would be unethical.
Some of the coming
demands of medical practice under OBAMACARE
will place the above approach under great strain. But that
approach will
not change. Contrary to the posture of too many of my medical
colleagues
who, in the last two decades when ordered to "JUMP", have supinely
responded "HOW HIGH?", my response will continue to be "SEZ
WHO?".
And
so, I will continue to
offer my professional TIME, my best efforts and my devotion to patients
who
appreciate that commitment. That is my Plan B, while those around
me
stagger through OBAMACARE.

SILENT
NO MORE!
GS
View the video at the
end of this message. It's very eye opening.
Obama has no liking for Cruz,
the least reason
of which is because Cruz is Republican. Here are a few other
factors:
Cruz is academically superior. Cruz graduated cum laude from
Princeton.
Not the case for Obama. Cruz graduated magna cum laude from
Harvard Law
School. Not so for Obama. Cruz's mental prowess has been recognized by
Allan
Dershowitz (who by all accounts is a bigger liberal than Obama) who
said that
Cruz is one of the most brilliant legal minds that he has ever seen.
His actual
quote was that "Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant." Not so
Obama. Cruz clerked for the Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court,
Justice
William Renquist, one of the most coveted positions for any young
lawyer right
out of law school. Not so Obama. The liberal tin horns in Washington
along with
the liberal media try to tout Cruz as some kind of nut.
Perhaps Obama and the other
libs don't like him
because he worked on the Florida lawsuit for George W. Bush against
Gore.
Perhaps it is because Cruz is a Baptist. Perhaps it's because Cruz ran
his Senate
campaign as a Republican and still garnered 40% of the Hispanic vote in
Texas.
Perhaps its because Cruz is against same-sex "marriage." For whatever
reason, Obama seems jealous of Cruz's legal successes. What has Obama
done in
the legal profession? Obama was not a professor at the University
of
Chicago as many of his supporters dishonestly tout, but was a "guest
lecturer", an enormous
difference.
This brief video of Cruz's
father is amazing--
it is a must watch. Indeed, every true American should have an
opportunity to
watch this.
Ted Cruz is a Texas Senator. His
Dad may
have just established himself as one more reason for Obama to dislike
Texas.
Please take the time to watch this and to pass on.

Absolutely!
If only
we can stay awake long enough.
GS
They
like to refer to us as
senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases
dinosaurs. Some
of us are "Baby Boomers" getting ready to retire. Others have
been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days
and our
eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We have worked
hard, raised
our children, worshiped our God and grown old together. Yes, we
are the
ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably
true. But
before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to
be taken
into consideration.
In
school we studied English, history, math, and science which enabled us
to
lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what
outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember
the
days of telephone party-lines, 21.9 cent gasoline, and milk and ice
being
delivered to our homes. For those of you who don't know what an
icebox
is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A
few even
remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those
days.
We
are probably considered old fashioned and out-dated by many. But
there
are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us
off.
We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam . We can quote
The
Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing
so. We
wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the
battlefield. We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America
; we
fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." We
wore different uniforms but carried the same flag. We know the
words to
the Star Spangled Banner, America, and America the
Beautiful by
heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we
sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history
books and
we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America .
Yes,
we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one
good
fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died
for it,
and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is
going to
take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all
enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to
keep. There
are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders,
there
is no way we are going to remain silent.
It
was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the
Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which
in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies."
You
have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you
don't
like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too
interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be
involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of
those
who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's
remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have
sense enough
to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.' Now
you're
paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost
mortgages,
higher taxes, and less freedom.
This
is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you
with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy
house.
Well,
don't worry youngsters, the Gray-Haired Brigade is here, and in 2014 we
are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower
than you
would like but we get where we're going, and in 2014 we're going to the
polls
by the millions.
This
land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. It belongs to "We the People" and
"We the People" plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We
hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it
along
to our grandchildren. So the next time you have the chance to say
the
Pledge of Allegiance, Stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor
our
country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Gray-Haired
Brigade."
Footnote:
This
is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Geezer signing on. I
will
circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this once great
county.
Can
you feel the ground shaking??? It's not an earthquake, it is a STAMPEDE!

YES,
THIS IS US!!
Senior
citizens are
constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the
modern
world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we
have done
and do not blame others.
HOWEVER,
upon
reflection, we would
like to point out that it was
NOT
the
senior citizens who took
The melody out of music,
The pride out of
appearance,
The courtesy out of
driving,
The romance out of love,
The commitment out of
marriage,
The responsibility out of parenthood,
The togetherness out of the
family,
The learning out of
education,
The service out of
patriotism,
The Golden Rule
from rulers,
The nativity
scene out of cities,
The civility out of
behavior,
The refinement out of language,
The dedication
out of employment,
The prudence out of
spending,
The ambition out of
achievement or
God out of government and school.
<>And
we certainly are NOT the
ones who Eliminated patience and
tolerance from personal relationships and

meaning of
patriotism, and remember those who have
Fought

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.
I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.
I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my

Pope Francis is a surge of fresh air flowing
through the window that Pope John XXlll opened with the Second Vatican
Council
in the 1960's. It's unfortunate that Pope Paul VI and his
followers in
the subsequent decades placed a heavy drape over it for so long.
The
result has been the avoidable diminution of the Church and of the Roman
Catholic Faith in the lives of so many in the world.
But one cannot
understand the promise that this new pontiff
brings to the Laity, the Body of the Church, by merely reading the
"racy" media accounts of his long (over three sessions) interview
with fellow Jesuit Antonio Spadaro, held in August, 2013.
Abortion.
Contraception. Homosexuality. Nothing has changed - yet -
regarding the Church's
teachings on these subjects. What has changed is the proper emphasis on
the
person who may be involved. As my father said frequently - and as
Pope
Francis paraphrases - "There is a God in every man".
But let's look at
these Church teachings. Here I insert my
firm opinions, well articulated in the Category in this web-site
(Abortion,
Morality and Ethics) under Catholic Church, "What's Wrong,( or
Right,)
With the Catholic Church.".
Abortion, the intentional killing of a human being from
the moment of
conception, is a non-negotiable Wrong - unless legitimately performed
to save
the Life of the mother.
Contraception was foolishly equated by Pope Paul VI and his
followers with
Abortion and thus "threw the baby out with the bath water".
Here I refer only to contraception practiced by two committed married
persons
in the discharge of their duty to bring into the world only those
children whom
they can reasonably raise. In this case, THE CHURCH HAS NO
JURISDICTION.
Similarly, and only in the above context, the related "Unitive
Function" of sexual intercourse is ridiculous. Perhaps, in time,
Pope Francis will address this self-inflicted wound of the Church.
Homosexuality is now being identified scientifically as a
biologic occurrence,
in the womb and possibly in the DNA, and not a "Choice". Here
the Church does not have a few centuries, as it took with basic
Astronomy, to
get it right.
In any case, please
read this insightful interview in the original,
as offered herewith, whatever your religion or faith.

It's

Regarding the "Accident Cascade"...or
whatever the correct term...
Once again, we're in
the post-event hand-wringing period following
the tragic Navy Yard incident. But, as engineers know from the
above
-referenced term, "accidents" are rarely that. On examination,
they turn out to be the nearly inevitable consequence of prior acts and
decisions.
And so it is with
these gun-related incidents.
- Yes, the Second Amendment refers to the rights of
individuals, not just to "militias", and must be safe-guarded.
- No, that does not mean that anyone can own a gun, just as not
anyone can drive a car. There must be reasonable and relevant
regulations...like background checks at gun shows!
- Yes, persons with psychiatric illnesses require a heightened
degree of confidentiality, given the uninformed and continuing general
bias toward those illnesses.
- No, physician - patient confidentiality in these cases should
not prevent the physician or other involved care-giver from notifying
the proper authorities and the potential target when there is evidence
that the patient is or may be a danger to a third person.
- Yes, psychiatric patients who might formerly have been
institutionalized can and should be released and treated in the
community. But the contingent promise...that there would be
adequate community support and treatment...was never kept.
- No, it should not be so difficult to effect an involuntary
commitment for whatever time is needed to diagnose and properly treat a
patient who could be a danger to himself or to another.
- Yes, the HIPPA law was needed to reduce inappropriate sharing
of medical information,
- No, the application of that law often leads to ridiculous
outcomes, certainly not consistent with the legislative intent.
- Yes, our veterans often return with medical needs that must
receive first priority from our society.
- No, that is not now the case. Please review the
recently published book by Andrew Basevich entitled "a Breach of
Trust", reporting on the loss of connection between the people and
their military defenders. REINSTATE THE MILITARY DRAFT, for a two
or three year period, depending on whether the individual can pass a
high school graduation level exam. What a boon that would be to
the many boobs wandering out there.
- Yes, we should not have a society that is a gun-toting armed
camp.
- No, we should not block the use of designated armed defenders
in schools and in public places.
- Yes, the military needs contract providers, given the
penchant of our soft society to starve those services.
- No, effective background checks should be the sole
responsibility of the military or other formal branches of
government.
I could go on.
But why don't you add your own proposals,
unaffected by the inevitable self-serving political calculi engaged in
by our
"leaders".
And while you're at
it, remember: "IN A DEMOCRACY, THE
PEOPLE ALWAYS GET WHAT THEY DESERVE".

Once upon a
time.....when our politicians tend to apologize for our
country's prior
actions, here's a refresher on how some of our former patriots handled
negative
comments about our country.
These
are good....
JFK'S
Secretary
of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when
DeGaulle
decided to pull out of NATO. De Gaulle said he wanted all US
military
out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk
responded,
"Does
that include all those who are buried here?"
De
Gaulle
did
not respond.
You

When
in England ,
at
a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the
Archbishop
of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of
'empire
building' by George Bush..
He
answered by saying,
"Over
the years, the United States has sent many of
its
fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
beyond
our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
in
return is enough to bury those that did not
return."
You
could
have heard a pin drop.

There
was a conference in
France
where
a number of international engineers
were
taking part, including French and American. During a break,
one
of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you
heard
the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
carrier
to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intend
to do, bomb them?"
A
Boeing engineer
stood
up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three
hospitals
on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
nuclear
powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore
facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
feed
3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand
gallons
of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a
dozen
helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and
from
their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
how
many does France have?"
You
could
have heard a pin drop.

A
U.S. Navy Admiral
was
attending a naval conference that included
Admirals
from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies
At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large
group
of officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone
was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a
French
admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many
languages,
Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that
we
always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking
French?"
Without
hesitating,
the
American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the
Brit's,
Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't
have
to speak German."
You
could
have heard a pin drop.

AND
THIS
STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...
Robert
Whiting,
an
elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At
French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in
his carry on.
"You
have
been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked
sarcastically.
Mr.
Whiting
admitted
that he had been to France
previously.
"Then
you
should know enough to have your passport ready."
The
American said,
"The
last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."
"Impossible..
Americans
always have to show their passports on arrival in France !"
The
American senior
gave
the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly
explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in
1944
to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen
to
show a passport to."
You

ON
ISLAM, BY A VERY WISE
MAN...
GS
Winston
Churchill 1899.
"Individual
Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion
paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger
retrograde force exists in the world."
This
is amazing. Even more amazing is that this hasn't been published long
before now.
CHURCHILL
ON ISLAM
Unbelievable,
but the speech below was written in 1899... (check Wikipedia - The
River War).
The
attached short speech from Winston Churchill, was delivered by him in
1899 when he was a young soldier and journalist. It probably sets out
the current views of many, but expresses in the wonderful Churchillian
turn of phrase and use of the English language, of which he was a past
master. Sir Winston Churchill was, without doubt, one of the greatest
men of the late 19th and 20th centuries.
HERE
IS THE SPEECH:
"How
dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries!
Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as
hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The
effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly
systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of
property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.
A
degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the
next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every
woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a
child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of
slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among
men.
Individual
Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion
paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger
retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund,
Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already
spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every
step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms
of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the
civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of
ancient Rome ..."
Sir
Winston Churchill; (Source: The River War, first edition, Vol II, pages
248-250 London).
Churchill
saw it coming...
“El
socialismo es la filosofía del fracaso, el credo a la ignorancia
y la prédica a la envidia,
su
virtud inherente es la distribución igualitaria de la miseria”.

Winston Churchill

SOMETIMES - NOT OFTEN - I HATE IT WHEN I'M
RIGHT.
While observing and
living through the societal chaos of the
mid-and later-1960's, I predicted that we would have to endure the
"progress" of two coming generations: (expletives deleted).
Sad, but true.
- Ignorant of basic facts;
- Stupidity regarding common sense;
- Total self-absorption: alleging "connection" but assuring
isolation within their gizmos;
- Amorality producing immorality.
Just a few recent
examples of the results will suffice:
- The irresponsible trend away from vaccinations of children,
producing new epidemics of measles and whooping cough;
- The trending parental refusal to track the lack of
school progress by means of standardized testing;
- The trending elimination of the study of Cursive in school,
and of many other basic subjects;
- The imposition of discipline on parents for disciplining
their children;
- The tolerance of chaos and gross misbehavior in classrooms,
with parents attacking teachers for attempting otherwise;
- The glorification of pets over people, including people in
the womb;
- etc., etc., etc.
And
here we are, witnessing
the decline and subjection to ridicule of the greatest nation in the
world. Good work, folks, you "expletives deleted"!

America
does not have an
overall strategy for dealing with and in the world as it really
is. And
as far as barbaric actions are concerned, they are easier to accept
when those
performing those actions are on your side vs. when they are against
you.
That's not morality; it's just reality.
What should be our overall strategy until the strategy succeeds?
Fundamentalist Islam is, by its own admission, an existential threat to
America. Therefore, it must be suppressed, permanently. The
only
people who can achieve that are moderate Muslims, clearly the vast
majority of
members of that Faith...for their own good as well as for ours.
Thus, all
of our national actions, overt and covert, should be directed toward
assisting
Moderate Islam in this effort. Those actions will very likely
include providing
military assistance to moderate Muslims , even to the point of
supporting civil
wars. This must not include supporting one sect against another
(ie.
Sunni vs Shiite), but only moderate Muslims vs the fundamentalist
crazies. Only if that outcome can be achieved world-wide will we
avoid WW
lll, aka the next Crusade.
The absence of an overriding strategy and goal like the above is the
reason
that most Americans are against our proposed belated, hesitant and weak
involvement in Syria at this time. As stated by William
Shakespeare in Macbeth: " 'Tis a tale as told
by an
idiot...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".
An
idiot, indeed!
