THE COMPUTER /
INTERNET / ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE:
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE DANGEROUS
Welcome
to a new Category of
Information and Opinion.
I
claim no special knowledge in this
area...just information and common sense - and a conviction as to its
importance.
Thus,
I will rely heavily on good
articles from which we can all improve our knowledge - and our
opinions.

THE INTERNET WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED
"OPEN SOURCE" SO THAT EVERYONE COULD USE IT - ESPECIALLY FOR PROFIT -
REGARDLESS OF RISK.
HERE WE GO AGAIN...WITH AI...EXCEPT THAT THE RISKS HERE ARE EVEN GREATER, POTENTIALLY
BY ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE.
Are you OK with that?

"I KNOW NOTHINCCKK".
That harried exclamation by Sergeant Schultz should be the introduction to my new section on Artificial Intelligence,
despite my expanding collection of related articles.
But reports like "Tech Leaders Are Divided On AI's Threat To Humanity" (in WSJ September 5, 2023, B1)
give me some assurance that more focused minds are paying attention to this Real Threat.

Money certainly will
not reverse this debilitating trend in the face of abortions, single parent
families, lack of parental commitment, lack of parental support and
empowerment, addictions d'jour, addiction to social media that simultaneously
rob a young person of his or her childhood and supplant it with nothing of ethical
/ moral value. A Disaster.
10) "Doctors Are
Being Driven Out Of Primary Care" (The Day, March 15, 2023).And that's
just the tip of the iceberg that the Health Care Professions are being driven
into. I know. I deal with it every day in this, my 60th year or private
practice of medicine. Never this bad.
I sincerely hope that
the above does not "drive you to drink".

First
of all let's all agree that
individuals and societies could hardly live without the
Internet as
they could not live without electricity.
As
the Internet was initially
created to be "Open Source", it can hardly now be "closed"
without creating a New Internet with built-in Security.
Meanwhile,
we will continue to be
Hacked, to have our schools and hospitals and industries and law
enforcement
agencies Hacked, with or without demands for Ransom.
And
we will grit our teeth and bear
it.
But
now we are actually fostering
the development of an eventual actual intellectual competitor to the
human mind
- and thus to human primacy of power / control:
ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE.
Good
Idea? I don't think so.
Logically, that development could make human beings eventual house pets
to the
creations with AI.
I
suggest that you bring yourself up
to speed on this subject...and develop your own
opinion - and then make
yourself heard on the subject.
