RAPID RESPONSE (Archives)...Daily Commentary on News of the Day
This is a new section.  It will offer fresh, quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in this rapid-fire world of ours.  Of course, as in military campaigns, a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction.  Charge that to "the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or military campaign must maintain to be effective.  But the mission will always be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick", supported by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be pro-active.  That's all I promise.

"RUNAWAY PROSECUTORS".
Long before the appointment of Robert Mueller as Special Prosecutor in the Trump issues, "prosecutorial misconduct" had been a growth industry in this country...leading to many false arrests, convictions and later reversals. This is not only wrong. It attacks the basis of our Constitutional Democracy and sets the stage for loss of our fundamental Freedoms. Look at the beginnings of any dictatorial regime, past and present. Look at how Hitler developed his power after taking over the Reichstag on January 30, 1933 (memorable for me as being the date of my birth). Thereafter, the entire German system of Justice was coerced into declaring that "Recht Ist Recht": "Law is Law", enabling all of the rest of the Nazi atrocities "Under Color of Law". This should not be a Republican or Democratic issue...although it is now,  depending upon who has the power and the malign will.
Renowned Professor of Law and civil libertarian Alan Dershowitz has been pointing this out for many years...and particularly in recent months during the tenure and actions of Robert Mueller. Whether his commentaries are expressed on CNN or on Fox News or anywhere else, he is always on point and consistent. And his observations have been echoed by Federal Judge Ellis, who is presiding over some of these indictments.
This should be of great concern to every American, of whatever political bent.
As I have said and written before on this website, and will continue to say, the next 22 months until the November 2020 election will be crucial to the long-term future and even survival of the United States...subject to attack from within and without. A massive grass-roots effort at voter registration and at voter turnout must be mounted. For the future of America will be settled at the ballot box on that Election Day...or in the streets. Your Choice.

CARDINAL DOLAN OF NEW YORK: SHAMEFUL.

Throughout the 2,000 years of Catholic Church existence, there have been many instances of shamefulness and scandal manifested by Church leaders, from Bishops to Popes.
Now Cardinal Dolan has joined those ranks. To the murderous legislation just signed by Governor Cuomo, he has declared that "Excommunication is not an appropriate response".
This is, of course, not completely surprising, coming from a politician who has never endangered his standing with other craven politicians.
He should be recalled.
Meanwhile, I will no longer donate to any Church initiative other than my local parish and pastor.
SHAME!

REGARDING VACCINES AND IMMUNIZATION:

"The World Health Organization has ranked vaccine hesitancy - the growing resistance to widely available lifesaving vaccines - as one of the top 10 health threats in the world."
See: "How To Inoculate Against Anti-Vaxxers" (Editorial, NYTimes Jan. 20, 2019, Sunday Review, p10).

Informative and well-presented, this article only begins to expose the great health danger posed by this latest mindless fad.  And it gives short shrift to the one main action that needs to be taken: "Get tough".
Through immediate Federal and State legislation, no infant or child (since "pre-school" is now being offered in infancy!) should be admissible to school without official evidence of having been properly vaccinated.
I can hear the bellowing now. Well: Shut Up! You are endangering our entire society needlessly.
Having taken that action, implement the other actions proposed in this useful editorial.

SOCIOLOGY: "IT AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE".
In my college course in 1950, I had to look to the Hopi Indians as a topic for my course Paper.
No more. Sociology has become Behavioral and Abnormal Psychology, with recent generations flirting with "weird and weirder". Of course, that's an overstatement - but not by much.
One article that caught my attention, given my work, is entitled:
"Preparing Your Practice For Tomorrow's Patients", by James F. Sweeney (in Medical Economics, May 10, 2018). "And at roughly 80 million strong, the largest generation alive, Gen Z is too big to ignore for physicians who plan on being in business past the next 10 years."
Not even I plan for that! But it's interesting. I have only one question:
And Whose's Preparing Gen Z. For The Real World?

Wal-Mart vs. The Morons ! ! !

And our last governor increased benefits to "the poor," many who refuse to work, but increased taxes of retirees who worked and earned their pensions because "they should pay their fair share."

Now imagine under the reemergence of the new socialist movement in this country could completely collapse the most successful society.  You can lead a horse to water but cannot make him drink… Putin in Russia and the leadership in China must be salivating…

1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart
Every hour of every day

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th)  than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world's largest private employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years

8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9 Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth's population is approximately
6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy.

This should be read and understood by all Americans… Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!

To the   535 voting members of the Legislature

It is now official that the majority of you are corrupt morons:

a.. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.

b.. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.

c.. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.

d.. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.

e.. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.

f.. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.

You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.

AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

TIME FOR ANOTHER POT POURRI,
but without specific article references - no time.
  1. ON "HATE", which is beginning to permeate our Society. (Not here, for as a Christian I cannot permit myself that empty weapon). The article by Lee Elci in The Day (Jan. 23, 2019) regarding the sordid Covington Catholic High School media coverage quotes George Orwell who "referenced a government that insisted on two minutes of hate daily. Now we have two minutes of hate 24 hours a day".
  2. MURDER ON THE CUOMO EXPRESS. What else can you call a just-passed New York statute that "legalizes" abortion up to and including at full-term birth? The National Catholic Register in its current edition - and before this passage - gives the background. I believe that this statute is not permitted under Roe v. Wade and its progeny - and that it should be immediately challenged in Federal Court by a person or persons with Standing. Meanwhile, Governor Cuomo should be Excommunicated from the Catholic Church...and should prepare for a very hot Eternity.
  3. The on-going debacle on Immigration, playing for several decades, is well addressed in a recent WSJ Opinion article by Robert Gates: "To End The Shutdown, Try Thinking Big On Immigration"
  4. An instructive article on the history of the State Of The Union Message by Cal Thomas is worth reading.
  5. More on the Catholic Church crisis. A recent article in the National Catholic Register by George Weigel supports the call for substantially more official involvement by the Laity in the governance of the Church. Let's see if the Pope and the coming meeting of Bishops in Rome can get this right. They are greatly overdue for some common sense.
  6. See a recent article by Austin Ruse (President, C-Fam) entitled "Church Teachings To Be Crimes Against Humanity" ...if the U.N. gets its way. I kid you not. I have recently addressed my views on that fetid body.
Bottom Line. We in American are in a War that will determine the future course of  this nation for many decades to come.
This war will be decided either at the ballot box or in battle.
That's why it's so important to mount a massive voter registration drive and voter turnout for the 2020 election. THIS IS REAL, FOLKS...NOT HYPERBOLE. YOUR CHOICE.

God & 3 Mistakes - YOUR HISTORY LESSON FOR TODAY

Tour boats ferry people out to the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii every thirty minutes.  We just missed a ferry and had to wait thirty minutes. I went into a small gift shop to kill time.

In the gift shop, I purchased a small book entitled, "Reflections on Pearl Harbor" by Admiral Chester Nimitz.

Sunday, December 7th, 1941— Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington, DC.  He was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered the phone, it was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the phone.

He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat--you would have thought the Japanese had already won the war.

On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters everywhere you looked.  As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, "Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?"

Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice.   Admiral Nimitz said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America.   Which do you think it was?"

Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?

Nimitz explained:
Mistake number one:

The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk--we would have lost 38,000 men instead   of 3,800.

Mistake number two:
When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships.  If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to America to be repaired.  As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be  raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to America. And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships.

Mistake number three: Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply.

That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or, God was taking care of America.

I've never forgotten what I read in that little book. It is still an inspiration as I reflect upon it.  In jest, I might suggest that because Admiral Nimitz was a Texan, born and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas -- he was a born optimist.

But any way you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism.

President Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately needed a leader that could see silver lining in the midst of the clouds of dejection, despair and defeat.
There is a reason that our national motto is,  IN GOD WE TRUST.

Why have we forgotten? PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY! IN GOD WE TRUST.

Please pass this important message to others. Americans need to stand behind one another!

God, Please Continue to Bless America!

"PAST IS PROLOGUE"...BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE REMAINDER OF THE STORY.
My attention is drawn to this truism by a fine article by Lisa McGinley in the Jan. 20, 2019 edition of The Day:
"One Kid, One Moment, One Mentor". It addresses the cancer of Racism and treatment of the soul.

Let me state my position at the outset regarding the State of Racism in this country today, based upon nearly 86 years of observation, over 61 years of intimate involvement with people as patients and a great deal of study.
The vast majority of Americans are not racist. Some continue to be racist in its worst definition...and will be until they die. And then what is mis-construed as "racism", used counter-productively as both a sword and a shield, is inequality of opportunity. "...there's the Rub."

How did we get here? I could start with Adam and Eve, Humanity as created, and Slavery from The Beginning.
But I won't. Suffice to say that the Civil War solved nothing regarding Slavery and Racism. Neither did Brown v. Board of Education, which should have desegregated public schools beginning initially with the first grade and proceeding annually - but didn't. The Civil Rights legislation of the 1960's was necessary but not sufficient, especially when distorted by the Viet Nam War and by the subsequent "slavery - light" guaranteed by Democratic social engineering that disrupted both Black family life and public education - despite mainly good intentions.

Despite all of this, Blacks have made great strides, supported by the vast majority of Americans. (I'm talking 90% here). But they Must Be Able! That requires remedial education and an optimistic attitude regarding Equality of Opportunity...and not an "entitled" Equality of Result. The latter attitude...and especially the virulent claims of "racism" in every face and around every corner prompted by some false "Black leaders", will reduce that 90% number, not out of "racism" but out of self-defense from idiocy of any race, color or creed. Beware.

My parents raised my sister and me with a saying: "Tutto Il Mondo e' Un' paese". "The Whole World Is a Township". I have certainly witnessed that in my medical practice, which I am proud to note includes patients of between 15 and 20 nationalities.

So re-read the article of Ms. McGinley...and draw personally the lessons that it offers.

The Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.
The Gastroenterologist's had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought Trump had a lot of nerve.
Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"
The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.
Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow.
The Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter." The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.
Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.
In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington!

2) And then we have over 400 Billionaires in the world, some of them with 40-60 Billion each and even approaching a Trillion dollars...who receive recurrent accolades for funding charitable organizations with $4 billion. Not chicken-feed....and at least it's not the Clinton "Foundation". But really...
3) Does money bring happiness? Evidently not in the Bezos household. I take no pleasure in that development. But really...
4) And for a segment entitled: "You don't have to be Rich to be STUPID", check out the WSJ Editorial entitled

To this Alice in Wonderland tour, I can only add my personal philosophy about money, perhaps having been leavened by my birth in 1933:
THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF MONEY:
OLD MONEY.  I don't have that;
NEW MONEY. I don't have that;
ENOUGH MONEY: I have that, and the state of mind that goes along with it.

See my continuing website series entitled "Public Education Politics" - and weep. The "civil rights issue of our times" has been "The War On Poverty"...which has perpetuated poverty and personal dependence. "School Inequities" are the direct and continuing result of the continuing and successful effort of the Teachers' Unions toward self-protection at all costs - especially by blocking analysis, reform and competition in the domain of public schools...the barrios of poor people. 2) In this "Trumpian Age" of institutionalized falsehoods, half-truths, fake news and vicious hyperbole, the following article by Max Boot is a case study for any fair-minded person, whatever his or her politics: "The End Of A Trump Love Affair With 'His' Generals". The Day, generally a fine newspaper except when it comes to President Trump, should have been embarrassed to publish it (Perspective, Jan. 13, 2019).

Now comes a series of related articles and reports posted in the January-February 2019 edition of Catalyst (Journal of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights). Although at times its President and Publisher William A. Donohue, PhD seems to me to "kick every stone in the road", here he is right On Point.

NB. President Trump is not the cause. He is the catalyst for change...and has arrived none too soon.

HAVING JUST IMPLORED US ALL TO ATTEMPT A "REVERSE ENGINEERING" OF AMERICA,
I now draw attention to what may be an easier battle: Curing Cancer.
No Joke. Trying to bring the body's own immune defenses to bear against cancer has long been considered, much longer than I knew about. I know of some efforts applied specifically to the treatment of Malignant Melanoma in the 1960's.
Now see the book review entitled "The Good Fight", by Mimi Swartz, regarding "The Breakthrough: Immunotherapy and the Race to Cure Cancer", by Charles Graeber (in NYTimes Book Review, Jan. 13, 2019).
NEWS FLASH: Professor James Allison recently won the Nobel Prize in Physiology / Medicine for his basic research in this field.

RR#2

MORE ON THE CRISIS IN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.
"Crisis"?
When attendance at Mass, the cornerstone of this Faith, has dropped from 70+% to 20%,
when vocations to the Priesthood - and the actual number of priests - has declined markedly to numbers that require the formation of parish "clusters" with individual pastors responsible for 2-4 different parishes,
when donations, particularly large donations, have greatly declined,
when more news about the Church is regularly found in the NYTimes and the WSJ instead of in the Catholic Transcript and the National Catholic Register - all of it bad,
there is a CRISIS.
As a committed and concerned Catholic, a member of the Laity ("the Body of the Church") and one of over a billion such Faithful, I choose to Fight rather than Switch.
See my continuing section on this website (asthma.drsprecace.com) entitled "Catholic Church".
So now...MORE.
See: "Pope Francis Confronts 'Gay Mentality'", by Father Roger Landry (in National Catholic Register Jan. 4-19, 2019, p11).
See: "The Epiphany Of Celibacy", by Father Paul Scalia (ibid).
And see a report on the planned Actions to be taken to address this continuing Crisis:
"Vatican Likely To Empower Archbishops On Abuse Claims Against Bishops", by Joshua J. Mcelwee (in National Catholic Reporter Dec. 28, 2018 - Jan. 10, 2019, p1). In the coming February Vatican "summit", it  is hoped - and advised - that nation-wide "Plenary Councils" be convoked, including not only bishops but also heads of religious orders and universities - and LAYPEOPLE - representing the entire Christian Faithful...and Not Only The Clergy. This Crisis will not be properly addressed or resolved by only the Clergy. It is too far beyond that, despite the inclination of the Clergy to do just that.
In addition, please consider my recent offering entitled "Personal Notes: What's Going On Here?",, which follows.
"THESE ARE THE  TIMES THAT TRY MEN'S SOULS"...comparable to issues facing the Council of Trent.
Don't just stand there. Do Something Critically Important.

GS

PERSONAL NOTES: WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?

CATHOLIC CLERGY SEXUAL ABUSE: ACTIONS; MORALITY; THE LAW; VICTIMS; DUE PROCESS…
  1. Sexual Abuse of minors is always Wrong, since they cannot by definition give consent.
  2. The Wrong is by the perpetrator and also by those charged with protecting the victims. Suppression of evidence can rise to the level of Obstruction of Justice.
  3. The Wrong can be to the victim, chargeable in Tort Law, and/or to Society, chargeable in Criminal Law.
  4. The basic elements in a Tort Law case are: Duty; Breach of that Duty = Negligence; Causation (Cause and Effect, or at least “Substantial Contributing Factor”); Injury; and Damages.
  5. The basic elements in a Criminal Law case are: The Statutory or Common Law Crime; Mens Rea; and Actus Reus.
  6. In both types of cases, other elements include Statute of Limitations or of Repose (modified for minors or for disabled victims); Presumption of Innocence and issues of Burden of Proof; Levels of Proof required (Probability: 51%, “more likely than not “; “clear and convincing evidence - +-70-75%; “beyond a reasonable doubt” – 90+%.).
  7. The U.S. Constitution protects the right to present “a case or controversy” to a Court of proper Jurisdiction.

In addition, a responsible organization – in this case the Catholic Church – is morally…and should be legally charged with searching out the Diagnoses and establishing Treatments for such moral Diseases.

I fail to see where the above elements have been or are being addressed by perpetrators and plaintiffs alike in an organized search for Justice. This benefits no one.

How could they, when the only raison d'et of such people is to trade on hopes of endless "entitlements" in return for Democratic votes. There are a lot of descriptors for such activities.

AND WHILE WE'RE CREATING NEW DISEASES THAT MUST BE IMMEDIATELY TREATED - AND PAID FOR BY SOMEBODY ELSE -
like "Millennial Maturation Arrest" and "Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria",
let's discover another. We'll call it the "Anger / Id Phenomenon." Its main symptoms are anger at and even hatred  of all existing societal mores as being negatively directed toward them - and a demand for immediate and copious redress. The cause of this phenomenon is, of course, IMPOTENCE: impotence from being raised by clueless (or absent) parents; impotence from mediocre primary and secondary schooling; impotence from being fed thin gruel in college resulting in no marketable skill....
Well, here you are. Yell and Scream. See if that helps.
And read the commentary of one local and incisive observer. See if the shoe fits.

"WHEN MEN WERE MEN".
When was that?
Psychological and physiological research finds that many young men are in a funk.
They are confused and intimidated in their dealings with many of the opposite sex.
They are depressed, with an increasing incidence of alcohol and drug use and suicides.
They are more resistant to attempting lasting relationships and especially marriage.
They have lower testosterone and sperm levels.
And more. Look it up.
And why?
Here I offer one diagnosis.
"Manhood" among some of the younger generation has been co-opted by the females. Not Ladies and not Women,  of whom there are still many...but "females" who have rejected their unique genetic role (among many roles) as mothers and nurturers of every generation since Adam and Eve.
In that context, "men" become the enemy. Everything else follows logically and inevitably.
Unless, that is, "manhood" defines and embraces a new "Status of Forces", isolates the "females" through total lack of attention, seeks out the Ladies and the Women as equal partners, and becomes defenders of the new generations that they help to form, to embrace and to support through life-long attention from the moment of their conception.
Meanwhile, many men of the younger generations are losing their psychological and physiological moorings - as men, as males, and as cognitive human beings.
That need not be.

But the facts presented in this article happen to be true. Can you handle the Truth?

And while we're at it, the following excerpt is a must-read...because this is THE STATE OF OUR UNION.
Read the entire Introduction (pages #1-19) of Tucker Carlson's recent book: "SHIP OF FOOLS" (Free Press, 2018). Then, if you haven't been paying attention during the last decade, read the rest of the book.

"The status quo is over. A revolution is on the way. Hopefully, it'll be the kind of low-grade revolution where everybody learns something and nobody gets hurt. But it will be wrenching either way, because revolutions always are. This used to be a placid country. It's not anymore, and won't be for a while." (p18).
